Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Disconnected the power wires from CDR23 and use the wire tapping clips that came with BTR-3 to tap into the UNSWITCHED 12v (red w/ black line) and ground (brown) to provide the 12v power to BTR-3.

The FM transmitter is what I've used with great success in the past, but I find myself just enjoying the car without music.

If you already have the CD Changer - you lose the Changer as it is replaced with the bluetooth unit.

Not to be mean, but every FM transmitter Ive used or been in a car with one in use, sounds about like a $30 solution.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The kit you have highlighted does not appear to be for the CDR-23. You need the one further down on the page. The one further down, I am pretty sure that is the mr12volt/lapower kit, simply re-labelled. I have the mr12volt kit in my 2003 C2 with CDR23 Bose/MOST connectivity. The unit functions well. If you don't have the factory CD changer - you WILL have to have the CD Changer enabled in the system with a PIWIS. If you already have the CD Changer - you lose the Changer as it is replaced with the bluetooth unit.

Another solution for Bluetooth on the CDR23 is to send it out to Becker in NJ. They will mod it for Bluetooth integration and ship it back to you with quick turnaround time for $129. You have to pay for the outbound shipping and obviously will be without your radio for a week or so. Only plug and play option Ive found.
I havent done the service yet, but Ill be doing some maintenance to my car next week. Before I get started I will be sending my head unit into Becker. Ill report back with an update.
Tom is correct, our BTR-3 will work with the CDR 23 head unit with CD Changer in the frunk as this is the fiber optic (MOST) system. Without CD Changer, the car's ECU will need to be reprogrammed for "CD Changer Ready" with the PIWIS mentioned or a Durametric. We are gaining experience and can offer advice as many new customers install the BTR-3 with the CDR 23.

Hows the sound quality? Not to be mean, but every FM transmitter Ive used or been in a car with one in use, sounds about like a $30 solution.
Well, that was the surprise. I'm picky with respect to audio. When I got this, streaming from Bluetooth was 95% as good as what I have in my jeep, connected by wire.
Related, I purchased a "better looking" fm transmitter that looked just like a usb outlet, really low profile, much better looking than what I posted. Audio quality sucked. So I know what you mean. For whatever reason, the one posted works excellent. Will also play mp3's from usb thumb drives.
I think it is this one. This is the new version.

The FM transmitter is what I've used with great success in the past, but I find myself just enjoying the car without music. The new PCCM radios from Porsche would be my next move if I wanted something more modern in the car. I'm not going aftermarket.
Hi Dave, I recently got the BTR-3 kit for my 2003 996 C4, which has CDR23 but no CDC (CD changer). My friendly neighborhood mechanic is willing to use their PIWIS(?) to enable CDC-ready for me for free. However, I have not been able to find a definitive DIY video or document with step-by-step instructions for the actual BTR-3. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Dave and other folks on the forum. I was able to get the job done yesterday afternoon. Everything worked out great and the car maintains a stock look. Here are the things I did:
1. Have the shop where I got my car from enable the CDC function for me with their PIWIS (?) tool. Since my car doesn't come with a physical CD changer, they couldn't verify if it worked in their shop. No worries.
2. Got the Audi/Mercedes radio removal tool from amazon (works for Porsche CDR23 as well), and removed CDR23 from its slot.
3. Disconnected the power wires from CDR23 and use the wire tapping clips that came with BTR-3 to tap into the UNSWITCHED 12v (red w/ black line) and ground (brown) to provide the 12v power to BTR-3.
4. Connected all the fiber optic wires. Then dropped both the fiber optic adapter and the power adapter from the radio slot into a gap right below the glovebox which are then pulled into the glovebox where BTR-3 will stay. This took the most of my time as I couldn't find the instruction to remove the side carpet panel and there wasn't a lot of room to work in the radio slot.
5. Routed the MIC wire from the glovebox straight across behind the console to the driver side well. Then hide the wire inside the weathertech stripes running up the A pillar. My MIC is installed near the top of the A-pillar next to the sun visor.
Almost gave up multiple times due to the lack of step-by-step instructions specific to my car. But I'm glad I did it. Very happy about the result.
