In addition to the exhaust modifications, I added Ohlins and this car has now replaced my x50 996 turbo as the car that I choose on the weekends.

Suggestion
There are useful and tasteful mods to the tune of OEM+ that would probably be welcome by most but you'll always have folks that want a clean canvas.

Ive been running the same with TG mild sport (I think theyre titled) cans and like the sound.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Of course this is all a matter of opinion.....Most after market set-ups I've heard are tonally bad and too loud. The stock set-up sounds really good tonally but is just too quiet. I think what makes an exhaust sound good to me is the same thing that makes a certain combination of notes that make up a chord sound good. Porsche clearly spends a lot of effort to make a musical exhaust/intake sound. To me it sounds like there are more than 6 cylinders. Anyway, maybe just using 200 cell cats will be enough. Hopefully it wont ruin the tone
My 03 4s is in the shop for new injectors, new coil packs/plugs, UAOS install, 997 GT3 shifter upgrade and a few body trim replacements. Had the engine/tranny dropped and clutch and replacement IMS Retrofit (2 yrs, 34k miles) look fine. Turns out one cat is shot and so I'm having a new set of SOUL Sports Cats installed. Very curious to hear how they sound along with the factory sports exhaust. Will post follow-up when car is back and I can better comment on any noticeable difference. Good luck with whatever you choose.
Literally heard good things from a 1.5” pipe fister mod and 200 cell cats. Easily enough done. Smaller diameter pipe than normal mod and it sounded deep, without raspiness. The PSE is real hard to beat though.
I put on the top gear sports mufflers (They have a “Mild” one as well) and haven’t regretted it one bit. They’re great value compared to other options. Sound is a little more aggressive than stock but really wake up at higher rpm. Some have mentioned a slight drone at hwy speeds but I’ve been on 3+ hour drive and wasn’t bothered (This is in a cab). I’ll post some video tomorrow if you’re interested.
I have Tubi mufflers on my car. I am so lucky they came with the car, and somehow PPI didnt note it, or the seller. So it was a great surprise when it got delivered to me.
The Tubi system sounds incredible. Under light acceleration, it sounds very close to stock. Nothing crazy. Cold start, theres a nice rumble. Once revs drop down, or on a warm start, sounds pretty stock. Driving, the more you dig in, the more you hear from the exhaust.
The best part for me, is the little revs, just a few taps of the pedal, when letting the clutch out in first/reverse or pulling into my garage slowly. My wife said it sounds like a panther growling. It does.
The downshifts/rev matches sound great. You also get a nice burbling (and an occasional little pop here and there) when you let off the gas pedal.
When you put your foot down it sounds great, its as loud as I want it to be without being annoying. Also there is NO DRONE. AT ALL.
My favorite way to drive is windows down and sunroof open and let it rip. I havent even had it a month yet, not daily driven, racked up 600 miles so far and loving every minute.
I am working on that! I have a few, taken on my iPhone. They actually sound pretty damn good through speakers or headphonesbut I want to compile some high quality samples and post online to help others make a decision. There are a ton of Fabspeed videos. A ton of Fister videos. Not too many Tubi vids for NA 996. Forget about if you want to find a Tubi system on NA 996.2, WITH sport cats. I think I may need to purchase some 200 cell sport cats to install, so I can provide BOTH Audio samples. Yeah For the greater good, ya know
I have Agency Power headers + Fister 1.5 modded mufflers. It certainly sounds great.
BUT!! For about a week, I had no mufflers. That sound was obnoxious. And glorious. Somehow, it ruined the more polished and respectable sound of my current setup. My ears want more.
It was like one weekend with that girl (or guy) youd never take home to mom. You know you couldnt put up with it every day. But wow, was it fun.
I might add 200 cell cats to help get just a little louder. 🙂
For a deeper sound the fister mod exhaust is hard to beat in my opinion. The previous owner did the mod on stock mufflers and this is what they sound like under load -

I've also driven a car with stock mufflers but with 200 cell cats and an x-pipe set up. It was definitely louder and provided a much higher pitched tone above 4k rpms. I liked that as well. Different but still good. At start up, the car with x pipe was a good deal louder too.
Aaron got it, so much fun driving with him. And when I hear the sound the car makes right when Im making the pass, always puts a grin on my face.
For anyone wanting all the loud exhaust they can get - just take a trip to the YT in my sig either muffler deletes or later videos, little tiny bullet mufflers with turndowns to keep it under 93DB as measured on one of the tracks I go to, with the deletes only, I was right on the edge depending where they were measuring on any given day.
Stock cats in all examples.

Milltek Cup mufflers are fantastic.
High quality, lifetime warranty, sound like a true flat 6 Porsche dialled right up.
Not too loud below 3k revs but really opens up above 4k. No drone at cruising speeds.
Milltek have been making exhaust for many decades.
l recently installed these after l was disappointed with the Gundo Hack.
Yes and I think you are doing a great job. Plenty of Fabspeed videos on YouTube to choose from, all combinations too! But, my car came with Tubi Style, and there arent many videos of that, which is what I was referring to, and why I want to make some of my own.
i have an early 99 with your exhaust and headers. Would like to hear what it sounds with x pipe with/ without cats. Im almost certain that the car has a tune, dont know whos tune it is, based on my research fvd has a tune for it so does giac. Thanks. Luis in Texas.
I have a C4S with Agency Power headers and mufflers installed, the setup sounds incredible. Zero drone when idling/cruising and a beautiful tone when opened up, especially 3-4k RPM. It's definitely loud when pushed hard, but not in an obnoxious way, sounds like stock on steroids with added depth & rumble, especially in my local tunnel. I'll try to record a clip over the weekend.
Carnewal in Belgium (carnewal.com) has a muffler mod service which produces very nice sound, with great reviews in Europe. They can sell an outright already-modified unit with core exchange, or can modify customers (round-trip shipping). Their service is excellent, prices are reasonable, and shipping is hassle-free and fast. Worth checking them out.
The owner, Gert Carnewal, is very resourceful, helpful and courteous. No affiliation. Just a happy customer.
You know whats funny. I have a couple iPhone clips that are decent. BUT I figured OK, let me get the GoPro out, get my microphones hooked to my Focusrite into my laptop, ya know do it right.
Came out awful. I will just compile my iPhone clips once I have a moment to do so. New iPhones are so good.
Here are tow links. I believe he may have some video/audio too.

I have B&B on my car. I'm not a big B&B fan but they sound pretty good compared to stock.
Most of the YouTube vids I've seen have really poor sound quality . And then you have the guys that walk out to their garage or driveway and start up the cold engine and then they just sit there revving it up 5000 RPM a few times.
I made a clip with a stand alone microphone mounted to the rear window with a suction cup mount. There was too much wind noise so I bought a foam thingy and a furry thingy to go over the mic. I'll make a run with both of them and post whatever comes out best for your sound database.
When it was time for exhaust upgrades for my ‘02 carrera I went with the Fister D mod ceramic coated in satin. The fit and finish was terrific and after conisderation I went with Soul headers and Soul sports cats. This combination transformed the car. It literally screams above 4k and it is smile inducing every time I drive it. In addition to the exhaust modifications, I added Ohlins and this car has now replaced my x50 996 turbo as the car that I choose on the weekends. The Ohlins suspension and exhaust/header/sport cat mods make this car sound and feel like a budget gt3. The component quality of the Soul products is exceptional! My Europipe on my 996turbo is great but the sound of the Fister/Soul combination on the 996 Carrera is unbeatable. 👍🏻
I am still shocked by how good the Fister/Gundo mod sounds. I figured it'd be raspy or drone or something. I was SO tempted to do aftermarket mufflers. Very glad I did this first!

was bored and finally put together a couple clips I had showing how the Tubi Style mufflers sound. Nothing crazy. Start ups, some light Revs a couple pulls trying to show what it sounds like. I would like to make a real video with multiple drive bys, different rpms, etc but for now this is all I got lol.
Stock sound, but louder and more aggressive when you want it to be? Fister all the way. This is one of the few (perhaps only) exhaust mods that shouldn't impact your resale value.
They can. Obviously the answer will depend on the buyer. Some may want it stock so yes. Others think of it as one less thing they will spend money on. Fister is a great compromise as it basically gives you the sport exhaust that's on all the time.
Gotcha I guess I would agree with that. I fall into the one less thing crowd for sure. So many cars from the 2000s have been so poorly or extensively modded its hard to find a clean one, so I can relate to that sentiment too.
I'd say that's probably the main reason where you'd loose value if crap was stuck on the car. There are useful and tasteful mods to the tune of OEM+ that would probably be welcome by most but you'll always have folks that want a clean canvas.
Back to topic - I'd definitely try to find some folks locally and hear their exhausts and go for a ride. This stuff is as personal as ride quality in suspension set ups. I've done this and have been very happy with my choice
I finally installed my agency power headers and top gear 200 cell cats and it sounds.......not good LOL! I wouldn't think the headers would do anything to the sound so just installing 200 cell cats ruins the tonal quality of the sound. Gives it a bit of a mickey mouse/coffee can sound. ..louder but not pleasing.
Interesting. Ive been running the same with TG mild sport (I think theyre titled) cans and like the sound. I do have some drone at 4k, but not horrific. Ill try to get a sound clip tomorrow. Might be my 3.8 is more suited.
