Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It was the same manufacturer as the one I removed which lasted as long as Ive owned the car at least.
Leading evidence: 'same manufacturer as the one i removed' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same manufacturer as the one i removed' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check condition of the wiring internal' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I would check the condition of the wiring internal to the headlight assembly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I discovered my drivers side headlight leveling system was stripped / damaged by the previous owner or some shop. Im having a lot of trouble finding this part, although it is easily removable. I can only find the entire headlight assembly for sale.
Does anyone know of a source for this part?
Went through this recently. I had no luck finding interior light parts either. Ended up fixing the part (had the whole thing) with epoxy.
You might call these guys

They might have a light with the parts you need but is otherwise damaged so that you can get it for a reasonable price.

- I'm restoring my litronic headlights and I was able to get the caps for left and right from them. I was told 5 weeks plus by another parts place, after I ordered, and when their site said 'in stock'. I cancelled that order. Rose passion shipped my parts the day I ordered, and I got them 3 days, 3, later.
You will find all your parts here - well, for a 2001 C2 Coupe w Litronic. -

Apparently Rose Passion are the goto nowadays, they acquired some other PCar parts company, I do not know all the details.
Huh. Rosepassion.com? I thought for a second you were leading me to a totally different comer of the internet. Thanks! Ill check with them for some parts.
Good luck finding the part you need. I'm interested in the leftover housing (for a project that may or may not bear fruit) once you strip out what you need.
There's a lot of FUD out there on the internets regarding 996 headlights, and some questionable part number information.
For example check out this listing on ebay. it claims this is a replacement harness for Litronic. headlights. Note the part #:
Genuine PORSCHE 996 Litronic Xenon Headlamp Wiring Harness 99661298800
Then look at this listing on eEuroparts.com, same part number -
Litronic Headlamp Wiring Harness Part # 99661298800
The photos do not even remotely resemble the same part. I have not checked in my car yet, but it looks like the ebay listing might be for the wiring that runs from the back of the headlight, which you unplug that one harness when removing the headlight.
The eEuroparts listing, I don't know what that is, and I've asked them to check it against my VIN and confirm what it is used for. i have my Litronic headlamp open on the bench, and while the wiring inside looks slightly like i matches the picture on their page, it's not the same. So I'm flustered.
On Friday I did receive the correct part from rosepassion.com, the left headlight seal, with the wiring that runs to the auto-levelling motor inside the headlight. All of my wires were bare due to crumbling / erosion. Note that in the parts diagram there is absolutely no mention of wiring harness. Sheesh.
Hi all! Very occasional user here with a headlight question; In my 2001 996 Turbo,- I have burned out the main bulb twice in a very short time. It seems like the box on the far right in the picture above is quite warm when I remove the headlamp assembly- could this be the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Peter
I was careful not to touch the bulb, I paid about 35.00 on rock auto. It was the same manufacturer as the one I removed which lasted as long as Ive owned the car at least. About 7 years. Thanks
I would check the condition of the wiring internal to the headlight assembly. The wiring insulation in our lights crumbles as it ages. I recently repaired all of the non-ground wiring in mine by installing shrink tubing. There are some posts about this.
