Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello guys, Im from Europe so sorry if my English is not perfect. I bought used 996 Carrera 4 cabrio that came from from the US and had some things to work on. After almost everything is done, there is one big problem I couldn't fix even after many hours troubleshooting. So the problem is that when trying to open the roof, the clamshell wont open. It seems that the lock holding the clamshell in closed position does not open automatically. If I unlock the clamshell manually, I can open the roof without any problem but as soon as the clemshell is locked again after the roof is opened, it does not open like described before. I even bought a used opening mechanism and installed it in place of the current one, but the problem remains. Before I go mad for not finding the solution, maybe one of you guys can help me. One important note is that the car had a flood damage where the engine and some other parts needed to get rebuild / switched. It also seems that the OBD connector does not work properly since a local mechanic could not reset the error messages in the onboard computer system. Is there a solution for that as well? I thank you in advance! Best regards

POST 3Original post

When you say you replaced the locking mechanism, do you the the hook itself or the drive mechanism. My guess is that the tab in the drive mechanism for the three cables (two to move the lid and one for the latch) is probably broken. This is pretty common. You need to replace this part: 99-656-102-103

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The part number you mentioned is exactly the part I switched. Although was used from ebay and I am not 100% sure it worked to begin with. It might be worth it to replace it again, but I am reluctant to buy a thrird mechanism without knowing if the other two I have here work or not. Is there a way to test this?

Does the tab that the cable for the locking hook is attached to move when you try to open/close? If so, it's probably OK. You can always open up the black plastic drive unit and visually inspect. There's a little tab on the slider that tends to break off. A bit of a pain to put back together but not too bad. Also, did you check the cable itself? When detached from the drive unit you should be able to push/pull to actuate the hook.
