If it's just leaking air a lot from something you ran over, you can plug it easily with a $10 kit in about 15 minutes and it will be fine until you replace it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the process of moving down to New Orleans from WA state and just outside of Provo Utah I blew one of my rear tires. It is a Pilot Sport 4S in 265/35/ZR18. All four of my tires were less than 2 years old with less than 3k miles and never driven in cold weather/stored properly during the winter. So, I am really shocked it blew out like this. I have called every tire shop between here and Albuquerque and no can get one in in under a week if at all. Is there any chance anyone between Provo and New Orleans (through Albuquerque, Dallas, Shreveport) has a spare laying around or know a shop that might have one, so I don't have to drive 2,000 miles on a mini spare. Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help anyone may be able to offer.

Good news it's in the back. You can always run another michelin until you can get the 4s. Anything is better than the spare.

POST 3Original post

sorry that happened. I have a lot of experience with flat tires, myself. is there possibly a warranty on that tire or some kind of coverage from where you bought it? what do you mean, it blew out? A properly inflated, relatively new $400 tire shouldn't just blow out or was there some debris? I would contact Michelin it sounds like there was a QC issue with that tire.

POST 4Original post

Get any 265/35/ZR18 tire available. Better than the doughnut, particularly at the rear..

How exactly did it "blow out". That seems very unusual. If it's just leaking air a lot from something you ran over, you can plug it easily with a $10 kit in about 15 minutes and it will be fine until you replace it. If the tire actually failed catastrophically, I would definitely call Michelin directly -- although I've never used it, their warranty is supposed to be pretty good, especially if it physically failed in 3k miles. They may also be able to help expedite a replacement. I just had a the all-season Michelins put on my 996, it also took about a week to get. Same with the Macan Michelin all-seasons -- it took about 10 days to get them.

POST 6Original post

Try calling Porsche Lehi 801-852--5400 and see if they can locate an N-rated tire for you. Tire Rack is Porsche's North America distributor of N-rated tires in the USA and they sometimes maintain inventory for these types of emergency road hazard issues. Good luck on your move.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the input. I tried Porsche and they don't carry this size unfortunately. It does not seem possible to get a PS4S on this short notice, so I have an appointment tomorrow to get another 265/35ZR18 like has been suggested, and I'll get another PS4S in a week or 2 in New Orleans. I checked all of the tires before I left WA yesterday morning and they were all inflated properly. I stopped in Provo for the night. I suppose it's possible I hit a bump yesterday that damaged the tire, but none were memorable as being bad. Then about an hour into my drive this morning on a smooth mountain highway I felt the rear end become unstable, and got it under control and pulled over. I was going about 80-85 didn't hit and bumps or potholes or debris or anything. I didn't buy the tires, but I have receipts from the PO they were put on in Spring 2020 less than 1k miles before I bought it and are date coded 4119. I took them off and swapped to winter tires immediately and then just swapped back 2 weeks ago and put about 1k on them before the blow out. I don't have a pic right now but it failed at the rear side wall. The bead was unbroken. And the tires do not run on anything, so I don't know what happened. P.S. it was not fun trying to fit the rim back in the car. Thankfully I had clothes and stuff since I'm moving to wrap it in.

POST 8Original post

wow! that is crazy! Glad you and the car are alright. Michelin should warranty that, that's bizarre. Must be a defective tire.

POST 9Original post

That is absolutely crazy! Never heard of such a thing. I would read the warranty to see if it transfers owners -- I think it does from memory -- but even if it doesn't, Michelin should cover this. That's a crazy failure.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I talked to the guy at the tire shop about warrantying it and he said Michelin probably would, but I'd need the receipt and it would likely take 2-3 days, so I just payed for the one 265/35ZR18 tire they had. After driving from Provo to Albuquerque on a donut I was done. No where in between had a tire that size. I then made it the rest of the way on a Nitto and it was much better. I'm going to call tire shops in NOLA tomorrow to source a new PS4S. Hopefully I have no more tire issues. I already found out on this trip my car behaves totally different when it's warm out. I bought it in January so the average temp for me driving has been under 40 degrees. It runs a lot hotter and burns a lot more oil when it's warm. I've got to look into a third radiator and possibly some other fixes now...

You probably already know about this, but clean the radiators first if you haven't already -- they collect a LOT of leaves (far more than you can see when you look before you have everything apart). The front bumper needs to come off, but it isn't difficult (hardest part for me was remembering where all the body screws go).
