Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Strongly recommend that you use plastic trim tools; you don't want to risk damaging the leather A-pillars or Alcantara headliner.

Phone prep connector: use vampire connectors to tap into the right wires.

Just use vampire connectors so you don't have to cut and splice.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had been looking for a good quality dash cam option for my C4S. Porsche has a ridiculously expensive kit available ($1900CAD!!!) which isn't available for our cars anyway.
I recently installed the kit from this company
Fitcamx
on my 2022 MINI JCW and have been very please with the result.
While they have fully integrated kits for the newer Porsches, they don't go as far back as the 996/997 era. Their customer support was very helpful and suggested that the Universal B with rear option would work well.
Installation is pretty straightforward if you're slightly competent and take your time. Strongly recommend that you use plastic trim tools; you don't want to risk damaging the leather A-pillars or Alcantara headliner.
I tapped into the phone prep connector since it provides switched and unswitched 12V DC and ground. Just use vampire connectors so you don't have to cut and splice.
Had a little fun "branding" the camera with some model car PORSCHE decals...almost looks like an expensive Tequipment option!
great packaging!
Handy model decals to "brand" the camera!
Relocating the electronic toll transponder. Going to go to the driver's side of the rear view mirror.
Remove sunroof trim panel to tuck the connectors in.
Use plastic trim tools to avoid any damage!
Loosen the side vent to get the cable tucked in.
with side panels off, you should be able to find the Phone Prep connector.
Phone prep connector: use vampire connectors to tap into the right wires. You need both switched and un-switched power to have the parking monitor function.
Almost done

through the windshield view...a bit more "branding"! 😊
Great idea. I got tagged in NH. Hit and run in a parking lot. I still think it was deliberate. How does one walk by a red 911, lit, small parking lot and then hit it.
Do you ever think the car is more likely to get vandalized because it has a camera? My accident that the driver took off I believe was intentional. It was in a obvious a space, its red and it was under a light. It was also in line with 10 other nice cars (all American muscle, well one old Porsche) but only mine got whacked. I wonder if a camera would just draw more negative attention. Its like when you park your car out in the far reaches of a parking lot and someone decides to park right next to you, though there are 50 other spaces. Call me paranoid but some people are nuts.
Yes there are a lot of stupid people, but I think that hypothesizing that vandals will target your car because it has a camera is a bit of a stretch!
The cameras are small and very discrete and you'd have to go looking for them. Here's a couple of pictures of my car with the cameras installed...do you spot them immediately?
To the left of the mirror (driver's side), is the electronic transponder for tolls. The camera is on the passenger side...if you can spot it.
Rear cam is dead centre top...yeah, that small bump is it.
I have been thinking of a camera install simply due to the wave folks are driving these days. It is the wild west on the highways and even crazier on the city streets. Plus, some of these folks are armed and stupid, so some video evidence could help after my funeral.
