Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took a look at other forums and found an article where someone repaired their 2003-ish E36 Mercedes that seems to have an identical pump (including the components in the inside based on the pictures he posted).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Dear Rennlist members,
On every cold-start of my 2003 911, I hear a high-pitched whirring sound almost like circular saw was running in the engine bay. The sound stops after approx. 1 minutes but I can briefly hear it start again it when I come to a standstill (e.g. stoplight). Not sure if this is normal or something to be worried about, I am attaching a recording that shows the moment the sound stops. I did a video of the engine bay too, but it seems Rennlist doesn't let me upload it, let me know if the video would help diagnose the issue, I will look for a way to add one.
Please let me know if I should take the car to the service or if I am worrying without any reason!
Cheers,
Andy
Your secondary air injection pump has a bearing going bad.
Either replace the SAI pump, or if you are a real DIY'er rebuild/replace just the bearings.
No it will not cause the engine to "explode", you can even just unplug the noisy pump, but you will fail emission testing...
Quick update on this:
I took the pump apart, but couldn't open the motor housing as it is sealed. I also found carbon in the motor, I guess the brush is used up. I took a look at other forums and found an article where someone repaired their 2003-ish E36 Mercedes that seems to have an identical pump (including the components in the inside based on the pictures he posted). FCP Euro has the Mercedes-certified version in stock for approx $400, around $100 cheaper than the cheapest pump I found for the Porsche. I ordered it and will see if it is the same part:

For comparison, here is the link to Pelican with the same pump:

Good to know!
Using your Bosch part #, I see that AutohausAZ has it for $376.00

And a URO branded one for $165.00.
