Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Edit Today: RMS seems to be leaking. Pics attached - wicked frustrating. My optimistic self is hoping the pan was hit and shimmied for a second, but I don't think so. Sucks because I don't have a benchmark. I haven't been under the car in a while so this leak could've already been there, or it was in fact from the motor making contact with the ground as it was front-towed (open for opinions on that). I have a damage report with the PPA. I do know this part of the car was bone dry around 98K when I did my last oil change . I've driven ~6K since then. I have to believe this leak came from it being towed/hitting the ground so I might be able to bill them for a new RMS and a general lookover. OP: Towed by the Philadelphia Parking Authority yesterday morning. They did not put the rear end up on a dolly and simply front-towed it through Philadelphia to the PPA lot on Columbus Blvd. Total distance towed was 4 miles. Supervisor said all tow drivers are trained to put cars like these on a dolly, and this guy did not. They had the head supervisor come out and talk to me too and insisted I open up a damage report - he was a car nut as well so he felt bad....

POST 2Original post

I lot of damage can happen in 4 miles of Pennsylvania roads I would definitely check the park brake and under the rear bumper for scraping

POST 3Original post

Check your alignment. Sorry you had to go thru this.

POST 4Original post

I imagine they put the rear wheels on a dolly. If your parking brake was on there would be quite large flat spots on the tires.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Edit/Delete: car was front-towed when should've been dolly'd. Damage report with PPA that will hopefully pay for a new RMS or whatever else may be wrong with it.

I have also paid many thousands of dollars to the PPA, glad to be out of the city. Anyway, if your plan is to milk the city for the damage they did not do (pretty sure towing the car could not cause bore scoring, etc.), I would not post that plan on a public forum. No judgment here (especially since I do not pay Philly taxes anymore), just thought I would mention it.

POST 8Original post

Sorry to hear about this. One of the best days in the last 20 years was when I was able to transfer out of Philadelphia. Higher salary and no wage tax. And since then Ive tried to avoid the city unless its necessary. But last week I attended an event in Philadelphia. Such a pleasure to drive down a street with wheelie popping kids seeing how close they get their bikes to my car while German helmet wearing morons on ATVs cut in front of me at the next light. Philadelphia gets the parking authority it deserves

Yeah, to anyone that actually rides (I don't, but have) - these guys in Philly rip around on 450cc bikes and pop wheelies/do tricks like it is nothing - you know you've lived here too long when you look at that and actually see it as impressive and not annoying.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got under the car today - bump to top - new pics/details in OP. Input welcome....

POST 11Original post

All the oil is coming from the RMS or IMSB cover.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18167302

Yeah, I'm just pointing to the areas where the motor made contact with the ground in those pics. No question oil is coming from where the trans meets her. Do you think he could've hit something hard enough to literally cause the RMS to leak? The marks I'm pointing to don't look bad, but I guess you never know.

POST 13Original post

Time to dust off the "go-no-go" tool from the mid 2000's.

POST 15Original post

That oil is from maybe years of leaking. When it needs a new clutch it can be taken care of.

POST 16Original post

That oil leak has nothing to do with the tow company...

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18167374

Changed the oil around 98K it was bone dry - have about 106K on it now so maybe just bad timing.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18167400

just making sure you saw the part about this being the Philly parking authority towing the car. They took it through center city on this type of angle with the *** down like that.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 18167400

I agree, unless the car was in gear for the four miles. The crankshaft is what the seal is for and that wouldnt have been turning unless the car was in gear, now the transmission input shaft seal may be where its coming from with the angle of the tow. Even if it was possibly in gear the oil pump would be turning generating oil pressure lubricating that seal.

POST 20Original post

Did they open the door and release the parking brake? I would be inspecting that if they didn't.

POST 21Original post

If Phila is anything like Chicago you will get lip service. Prove what you can only prove and don't hold your breath. You got a better chance of winning the lotto.

POST 22Original post

Like some of the others, I see a pre-existing oil leak and some minor scrapes and scratches. 4 miles is not far enough to damage anything internally unless the car was in gear. If the car runs and drives as normal, I'd say no harm done. See if you can get a few bucks for the minor cosmetic damage.
