Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I just changed my exhaust tips on my 996 C4 and suddenly a weird squeaking sound occured from the exhaust system (i think). Any one who has a suggestion what this could be? I've tried to loosen the tip and tighten it. Same sound. Video for reference: Vimeo Thanks

POST 2Original post

Remove the tip and see if the noise goes away . Maybe a cracked weld holding the tip to the pipe ? Or a clamp somewhere in the exhaust has loosened ?

Does the muffler itself move/rattle if you push/shake it by hand, when cold? You could check that the three nuts on the backside of the muffler are tight to the bracket. Have to remove the tire and get a wrench in the tiny space between the coil shield (best to remove it) and the muffler bracket. Maybe the coil shield behind that is loose? If it's not that, then it's something internal to the muffler.
