Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've searched and searched and still feel like I'm missing something. Is there an additional 12V socket besides the one mounted next to the radio?

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 15876863

I have only seen the one. Have you heard about another? Why do you feel like you are missing something?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had read somewhere that there may have been one in the passenger side footwell. Never had that on my 986, didn't think it was on my new 996, but would love it if so

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 15876901

I think it moved on the next generation 997, but honestly have never looked for that when driving my friends 997.

POST 5Original post

In the 996 there is a 4 prone plug back there that's switched 12v. It is intended for the Porsche Phone equipment. it is behind the plate at the footwell, you can get to it from both driver and passenger side. I bought a 2 usb port thing and plugged into it to give myself 2 usb charging ports.

POST 6Original post

Great info, can you please share pictures when you have a chance?

POST 7Original post

check out this thread and it is post #6 that has a picture of this plug. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...bose-most.html I went to hardware store and found a male side that fit. It looks like the old school PC power supply plug into the back of Hard drives. But the PC version is just a little smaller.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 15876863

Nope, not in the 996 I own or have been in.

POST 9Original post

I added one into the side using a GM flap door plug. I just tied it into the existing power port. Easy.

POST 10Original post

Jim010- Do you have a link to the "GM flap door plug".....I like that!

POST 11Original post

I got mine form ebay. Any flap door trim will allow a standard power socket to fit. https://us.amazon.com/Genuine-GM-135...ing=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/12V-Car-Powe...Bb8hlt&vxp=mtr

Going to be mounting this one in the passenger footwell, tapped off the phone plug: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075D8C565/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075D8C565/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That looks a little bulky. I am sure you could find smaller and cleaner ones. Here is another tread to show some of the locations of the phone plug. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...always-on.html

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15880943

Yeah, it is, but much of it is going to be shaved off and itll be tucked away quite a bit. If you find a cleaner/smaller one with dual 2.4A USB and a 12v socket, AND an in-line fuse...please do let me know!

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Heres the phone plug, for those curious

Are you planning for the socket to be visible? If the socket is visible, you can use something like these: Amazon Amazon https://www.amazon.com/HiGoing-Cigarette-Lighter-Adapter-Motorcycle/dp/B075H9WZ88/ref=sr_1_33 https://www.amazon.com/HiGoing-Cigarette-Lighter-Adapter-Motorcycle/dp/B075H9WZ88/ref=sr_1_33 If you plan to just have wires sticking out, you do not need these. In my car, I have the following devices hardwired, with wires coming out the appropriate location: - Radar Detector - Dash Cam - iPod cable powered to an ipod classic - iPhone cable with apple car play I have 2 phone charging cords coming out the side of the arm rest console for charging phones. I hardwired the connection using a relay so that all my deices are switchable powered. I just break apart a cigarette lighter adapter with dual USB, remove the contact pins, solder wire leads coming out it, then tape it back up with electrical tape. I then splice the wire leads into my power source wires directly. Then I plug my USB device in. I use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Dual-USB-Car-Charger-Adapter/dp/B07H4Z71PY/ref=sr_1_28 https://www.amazon.com/Dual-USB-Car-Charger-Adapter/dp/B07H4Z71PY/ref=sr_1_28

POST 19Original post

Just installed this last night.....was super simple. I took the little trim piece off the side that is aft of the carpet piece, but no need to. Anyways, here are some pictures. Here is the USB port I used: Amazon Amazon I took the carpet piece off, figured out where the socket would fit, pulled the phone harness out, the brown is the ground and the red (I believe it is stripped also) on the other end is the positive. They are unswitched, I left it that way. I used insulation displacement connectors and an inline fuse that comes with the unit. Used a Dremel and Exacto knife to cut the plastic and carpet. Screw it on, re-install the carpet piece.

POST 22Original post

Keep in mind that the 4 prong phone outlet has one switched and one unswitched power supply and a ground. I wired in a 12 volt socket and a splitter, drives my gps and my radar detector.

POST 24Original post

Does someone have a link on removing those panels? I would search but I don't even know what those panels are called. Thanks in advance.
