have you tried putting the key in the ignition after unlocking the door with the key and turning part way, as if checking digital oil level?

Can anyone outline what the rules are of the immobilizer (how many days it can sit before the alarm shuts off to save battery) and if there is a way to use your key to open the door properly so that you are not automatically locked out of the trunk?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, apologies if this has been answered but I couldn't find. I recently picked up a new to me 03 996 C4S. I often park it for a week or so at a time and have been having issues with the immobilizer locking me out of the trunk (which is annoying because then I cannot plug in my battery tender). Can anyone outline what the rules are of the immobilizer (how many days it can sit before the alarm shuts off to save battery) and if there is a way to use your key to open the door properly so that you are not automatically locked out of the trunk? Any information or workarounds here would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, I dont have all the details, but will help you move this to the top. For my cars:
1). 996.1 w/ cable frunk release...I leave this car unlocked in the garage. If the battery dies while the car is locked, it is a real PITA to open the frunk.
2). 996.2 w/ elec frunk release...Your situation happens to me after about a week, but I can open the door with the key and then cycle the trunk.
Is your battery totally dead after a week?
I think you are confusing the immobilizer with the battery saving feature called Standby Mode which kills remote access.
The immobilizer will not allow the car to start unless a chip is present in the key.
Standby More turns off the remote receivers after 5 days of inactivity.
So yes...I am then referring to the Standby Mode...but when I do unlock the door with the key hole, it locks me out of the trunk (which I believe is a safety feature built into the immobilizer). Is there a trick to opening the doors with the key to ensure the immobilizer does not lock out the trunk, after Standby Mode is activated?
have you tried putting the key in the ignition after unlocking the door with the key and turning part way, as if checking digital oil level? i have an 03 4s as well and have never experienced being locked out of the frunk. Also maybe you need a new battery in your key fob. Good luck.
I have tried that...it locks me out of the frunk every time (it seems for at least 12-24 hours. When I go back before the Standby Mode kicks in I can usually get the frunk to open. I also swapped out the key battery when it first started so I know it is not that. In an older thread, I saw someone share the below call out in the manual. I have not tried this technique yet, but will next time it happens to me. I also know there is a manual frunk opener but it is very hard to access without taking off the passenger side front tire and wheel well. Has anyone successfully moved that wire to make it more accessible?
Bergen county...Northern NJ. I bought the C4S in March, so I have not yet been able to get it titled or registered. NJ DMV process has been terrible the last two weeks.
don't have anything to add to the OPs discussion, but after reading your two stories, I didn't feel as bad about my own registration story. Bought a 996 4S beginning of May, and didn't get my registration until beginning of July. I was fully expecting it to take longer than that. good luck to you both and hope you can get your registration sooner rather than later.
