Kevin's 2.5 kit is for a dual mass flywheel so it won't work unless you change the flywheel too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After doing all the work, the car drives wonderfully. It definitely has the best chassis out of all the cars we own. Unfortunately the clutch recently started to slip with just a minor increase in boost to just 11psi lol. So ill be ordering a replacement clutch next, probably just get whatever is already in there, Sachs.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback.
yessir. we have the entire 90's fleet
the black z32 is a LS swap and we also have a custom single turbo z32 with the VG30DET, not pictured.
Thank you de jeeper
Very nice car, congrats!
I would ask around for recommendations on the clutch. It could be that the clutch is worn, or with the mods, maybe its not the right clutch in the first place.
You need to get w Kevin at Ultimate Motorworks , He has right clutch kit for you.

I'd think something in line of Stage II clutch upgrade would work, but he tell you for sure. Great prices on kits make it worthwhile.
Good Luck
Mike
Thanks everyone. Not sure on the exhaust, i know its aftermarket, but it doesn't have any markings from what i can see on it. Sounds decent, nothing special really. The sound of the turbo porsche is a bit subdued compared our our straight piped cayman.
Marty's car was a strong k24/18G build, I think he trapped 134 with that car.
I sold him an exhaust way back when, a Gen. 1 SpeedTech 70mm, twin can system with 200 cell cats. You can do a little better with a 100 cell cat system, if that is still whats on the car. I think he may have picked up a Switzer at some point. If so, not sure on the specs of that system...
Oh dang, you actually remember the car/previous owner! so cool! I was told by Todd that this car won 2nd place or so in the texas mile in the early 2000's. Is there a way for me to ID the cats being 200cell vs 100cell? Thanks for the input.
If you post or email me a picture of the exhaust, I can tell you if it's ours or not and probably if it's a Switzer or not. I think Marty may have been catless with the Switzer, so see if it has cat bypass pipes. Our gen.1 was a twin can system - two separate mufflers, whereas the Switzer was a one piece. Later we went to a single muffler quiet version and straight X-Pipes for moderate and loud versions.
Not the update I was hoping to make, but here's an update on the car
Brother was driving on the hwy and downshifted a gear and hit some boost, he heard a clunk and tried to put the car into neutral he was in 5th, however he was unable to press the clutch pedal.
Had to get the car towed home. No leaks, engine seems fine, however upon startup there is some audible noise which seems to be coming probably from the bellhousing area and we can't press the clutch pedal. Its so stiff, i haven't tried too hard, but its hard enough where I don't want to risk doing any damage forcing the pedal down.
Clutch job was eventual, now its time to order the parts. From looking at the list of parts that the car came with, this is what's currently installed in the car.
Item number Description
88308999752 Sachs Pressure plate 993
99611601532 GT3 RS Disc
95011608008 Release Bearing
Before I order replacement clutch components, is there anyway to know which type of flywheel the car could have? I was planning on ordering the "2.5" kit from here
http://ultimatemotorwerks.com/clutch.html
but wanted to make sure I ordered the correct parts first.
Also ive been doing some reading and it seems the clutch assist system is linked to the PS system, however it doesn't seem like there is any loss of PS. Possible culprits point to the accumulator but my symptoms dont exactly match up to what ive been reading. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!
I'll post some pictures when we get the car torn down.

There's no way to know what flywheel is on the car without looking. From your parts list it appears to be a lightweight flywheel of some sort.
The factory dual-mass flywheel uses a non-sprung clutch disk as springs are built into the flywheel. Single mass flywheels use the sprung clutch disk. Since that disk in your list is a spring clutch disk it follows that you have a single mass flywheel. Kevin's 2.5 kit is for a dual mass flywheel so it won't work unless you change the flywheel too.
The power clutch is not likely to be involved here unless the slave has totally died. Even with no power assist the pedal should still operate the clutch with more effort.
The Turbo's G50 transmission uses a pull clutch carried over from the air-cooled cars. To separate the gearbox from the engine it's necessary to remove the clutch fork shaft from the transmission through an access hole on the driver's side of the trans. The clutch fork then stays with the engine/pressure plate/release bearing. Get or find the service manual before you take out the trans, there are other gotchas.
Once you have things apart I think the problem will be obvious. This may be the problem with your trans -->

"The factory dual-mass flywheel uses a non-sprung clutch disk as springs are built into the flywheel. Single mass flywheels use the sprung clutch disk. Since that disk in your list is a spring clutch disk it follows that you have a single mass flywheel."
From my experience, the OEM disk on the 996 turbo w/dual mass flywheel is a sprung disk. The 996 GT2 uses the non sprung disk, which is a great upgrade for the turbo. The single mass flywheel uses a sprung disk for street use.
So finally yanked the trans and found this. Where do I begin to find a replacement bell housing? Can it be repaired? It's sheared I 2 spots. I was thinking the boss for the clutch fork may have caused this catastrophic domino effect but it looks ok. Maybe the couch broke and caused this wreckage.

Yea thats colateral damage from the clutch. I would contact a couple of the trans builders to see if they think the damage is in a structual area. I would almost think u could repair it with epoxy or even have a good machine shop weld in a reinforcement. The turbo trans is very expensive to replace.
I think you should give Roger Brown at CMS a call and see what he has to say.
Please sit down before you read the prices for these transmissions. I don't want you to fall over after you faint.
Thanks for the mental support...i looked up prices and they are nuts! Fortunately, I have a local fab/welder guy and he looked at it after i cleaned everything up and said he can fix it. So ill have an update later in the week with how that goes. Now I need to focus in purchasing a new clutch combo.
The OE dual mass flywheel looks OK, so ill look for something that retains the OE flywheel. I'm sending this out to get resurfaced

Spoke with Kevin from Ultimate, thanks to the recommendations in this thread, I will be ordering a GT3/4.0 clutch kit with a new LW flywheel and getting this thing back on the road. Pictures incoming soon! Thanks!
Any decent welder should be able to fix up that damage to the bell housing. Based on the pictures it looks like there's no damage that goes through the case (at least in the areas that matter).
That holds the heater hoses where they cross above the left-hand driveshaft. There should be 2 plastic clips as well.
BTW, the lightweight flywheel will be noisy as all getout. I installed that exact kit on my car and removed it 300 miles later. The rattling noise was intolerable.
Thank you. Ive got about 100 miles on it so far, the rattle at idle isn't bad at all honestly. But this is one of the more quieter cars in the stable. Picture below of the fix that was done. Cost me about $700, there was another spot he fixed as well.
Once break-in is complete, im looking forward to cranking up the boost on this puppy. I've only ever run 11 to 12psi max boost till the clutch began slipping last time.
