Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But held off until the vette was gone and $ was in the bank and then from prodding from a buddy that just replaced his 335i with a 997.2 I thought I should at least include Porsche in the discussion.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My article on buying and living with my budget 996 just got published in the PCA E-brake newsletter. You guys (as in the generic Rennlist forum rather than individual members) get a shout out. You've all been a huge help both before and after I bought. http://exclusive.multibriefs.com/con...otive#comments

POST 2Original post

Congrats on having the article published! Very cool!

POST 3Original post

Nice article. I have a similar experience. My boys always want to take the "cool car". Mine is midnight blue with the same interior.

POST 5Original post

Nice. I saw that article and knew it must have been a 996 Rennlister. Where else would you find such 996 love?

POST 7Original post

Congrats. I guess the 996 and IXX can never be apart in an article...

I figured I'd address it head on in the article. But I'm sure you saw the "change your ims" comment, so yes.

POST 10Original post

Good stuff! That is almost word for word the same experience I've had over the last few months. Same purchase options, same decision on car, same enthusiasm from the kids to take "the Porsche" everywhere.

Nice article. I think you represented the community well!

POST 14Original post

great article, congrats on getting it published and on the car too. I just went through a similar road to a 996, my first Porsche. I am a long time BMW and Corvette guy and just sold a really low mile garage queen C6 worth a pretty good amount. My two motivations were that the C6 is not a very good daily driver for my needs, plus this one was too nice for that duty anyway, and I also wanted to pull out some cash for some home remodel projects. Besides, my E39 M5 is really my pride and joy right now anyway. So it made a lot more sense to get into something that I can drive most of the time during the week and keep from piling up so many miles on the M5. Looked at tons of options and had it narrowed down to E36 or E46 M3 and almost bought a couple of each. But held off until the vette was gone and $ was in the bank and then from prodding from a buddy that just replaced his 335i with a 997.2 I thought I should at least include Porsche in the discussion. Thought about maybe a 944 or 928 and started looking around at 996's. I've driven them before, but never thought they were worth the money. Well - depreciation and M96 issues have really pounded the market value. Short story I found just the right two owner '99 coupe with the IMS retrofit and clutch done 10K miles ago. Just over 100K miles. Really nice condition and options too. For a crazy price. I couldn't walk away from that car. Bought it yesterday!
