Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had it preemptively replaced by a LN authorized installer.
Leading evidence: 'Replace by a ln authorized installer' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'later in my case' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace by a ln authorized installer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My MY99 has a single row, I also just found out when I had the imsb/clutch replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Last week we had a 97 Boxster that had a single row IMSB, the engine was replaced in 2003, hence the single row bearing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just thought I would share this out to the community. I recently had my clutch replaced, and decided to do the IMSB as well. I was surprised to find out it was a single row bearing, as the general thought is that MY99's and some MY00's have a "better" dual row IMSB. I figure that there are a couple of possibilities..
1) Some 99's did have single rows.
2) My '99 has a replacement engine, and was inadvertently downgraded to a single row in the process.
I suspect the later in my case. So just putting the word out.. if you have a '99 and you don't have the complete service history, it is possible that you don't have a '99 engine and dual row. Or...not all 99s are dual row.
I wish there was some way to tie an engine serial to a date of install..
...and my '01 has a dual row. I had it preemptively replaced by a LN authorized installer.
So...maybe my engine was swapped. ( no records reflecting this). Dunno
Thanks Frank, M96/01AT66X65297 which would indicate a reman '99 engine (66x). I had seen that thread a along time ago and forgot about it, I guess I can assume it was likely replaced after 2000 and they put a single row bearing in at that time. You would think the serial would be eligible for the class action.
Your 99 with a single row IMSB has seen an engine replacement by Porsche post 2000. When the factory makes a change, they make it retrospective and don't keep the prior technology for remanufacturing.
Last week we had a 97 Boxster that had a single row IMSB, the engine was replaced in 2003, hence the single row bearing. This happens all the time.
"AT" and/ or "X" in the engine serial # indicate a reman. A "Y" in the serial indicates a new engine, which you could have as well.
Wait, a Y means new engine and not original? I have a 2000 and I thought the Y was for year 2000?
Here is mine and how I thought I deciphered it.
Engine m96/0466Y07207, 04=c4, 66Y=6 cylinder 2000 build, 07207=serial
I just did the Ln Imsb swap and it was dual row.
