Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also lubricated the lock a bit more with lithium grease.
Leading evidence: 'Lubricate lock a bit more' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check hood latch mechanism' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Check the hood latch mechanism because there is a small degree of adjustment.

Put some vaseline on the bumpers, then check when the hood is closed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The lid now opens and closes, but there is a distinct difference compared to how it worked before.
Yesterday, the front trunk lid actuator was not releasing the lid, so I had to use the emergency cable to release the lid. It was a 100+ degree day, and we had ice cream inside! Luckily, the ice cream did not melt. Whew! Anyway, I sprayed a little WD-40 on the lock mechanism and moved it up a few millimetres. The lid now opens and closes, but there is a distinct difference compared to how it worked before. Previously, with one hand holding the edge of the lid, I would close it until it was about 3 inches above the safety latch. Next, I would drop the lid allowing the bar attached to the lid to hook into the safety latch. Lastly, I would use the palms of both my hands placed to the side and below the emblem and push down to secure the lid in place. Upon performing this last action, I would hear a reassuring "click."
Now, everything is the same except for that "click" sound during the last action in the procedure. I push the lid down, and it does hold. The lid seems secure, but I wonder if there is something in the mechanism that is not functioning correctly. How does your frunk close?
Lol, I had a similarly disconcerting issue with my frunk lid lock. I was showing up to a kid birthday party, and could not get the gifts out because the frunk would not come up. Fortunately, a friend and I both lifted as hard as our fingers would allow, we got it open.
It was never the same after that, even after greasing.
Note: I use grease, not WD40
I ended up buying a new lock mechanism for $150 and replaced it. Not too difficult to do.
It should "click" shut. You are going to have to check the latch mechanism and operation. You do not want to have the hood fly up! Lubricate with some white lithium grease. Check the hood latch mechanism because there is a small degree of adjustment. Check that the hood latch mechanism bolts are tight. There are two rubber bumpers on the hood that screw in and out to determine how tight the hood closes. They should just touch the cross bar when the hood is closed. How do you do that? Screw them all the way in, then back out about 2-3 turns. Put some vaseline on the bumpers, then check when the hood is closed. Both bumpers should just barely leave a mark on the cross bar. Make sure your emergency cable is free and loose, and not holding the latch open.
I did some more fidgeting with the lock and ended up fixing it. It clicks! I tried positioning the lock mechanism several different ways as there is a bit of room for height adjustment. What ultimately ended up working is positioning the mechanism in the middle and then tilting the right side up a bit higher so it was tilted if you will. I also lubricated the lock a bit more with lithium grease. Hooray for a successful repair!
