Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
in my case the rough cranking/starting turned out to be these, worn so that the camshaft chain didn't quite slide over them.
Leading evidence: 'these, worn' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'these, worn' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean idle stabilizer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If it's not e-gas, you may want to clean the idle stabilizer.

Suggestion
Just clean the throttle body and do the re-calibration to see those help then.

Suggestion
In fact, you may want to clean the throttle body as well (using throttle body cleaner).

Had the car PPI and IMS at same shop (a shop in CT that came recommended) and they said no one said anything about clutch looking bad while changing I,s so it should be ok.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Turn the key and it starts but stumbles...rpms drop for a couple seconds and then pop back to life. The car is at Brumos porsche getting new clutch, clutch plate, etc etc...flywheel as well. Had the car PPI and IMS at same shop (a shop in CT that came recommended) and they said no one said anything about clutch looking bad while changing I,s so it should be ok. I have had car for 1000 miles and clutch was bad from the get go. I changed motor mounts two weeks in because I thought that might be it.
Brumos said the clutch plate was damaged due to heat. This is my 7th Pcar and 3rd IMS change and never had this issue. Brumos said it is more than likely causing stumble and down on power.
I guess it's possible if the gearbox cannot be decoupled completely from the engine even when you push the clutch in. The extra lad could throw off the idle. Is that the way your clutch fail? If it's only slipping,
I don't see how it can affect the engine starting when is pushed in.
Well, I suppose. As Ashai mentioned if the clutch drags... But if it did this shifting would have been very crunchy.
If the clutch problem caused erratic behavior with the flywheel this could cause a rough start. The flywheel has the ears on it that the crankshaft position sensor uses to help the DME know where the pistons are and thus when to trigger fuel injection and spark. A bad flywheel -- failed dual mass feature -- could also contribute to this rough starting symptom.
A rough start can be due to a number of things not related to the clutch or flywheel. Most common is a mixture problem. Either the mixture is too rich which affects a hot engine or it is too lean which affects a cold engine.
A lean mixture can arise from a number of things, but often it is an intake leak. The AOS has to come under suspicion. But so too does the oil filler tube cap and then there is the entire intake system, though these usually remain leak free unless messed with.
Another reason for a mixture problem is the coolant temperature sensor is supplying an invalid (warmer than actual) temperature or the MAF is supplying an invalid (warmer than actual) temperature.
Plugs and coils can also cause a rough start though my experience is this sets the CEL to on and there are one or more misfire error codes logged.
You'll have to see if the new clutch solves the rough start problem.
Clutch did not solve rough start problem. The clutch is great though! Any ideas on rough start Does not happen cold (at least not that I have noticed yet). Only happens after running it. ie - came home from picking up at shop. half hour drive. parked it...started it 15 minutes later and the rpms drop and the car struggles somewhat to stay running. it takes about 4 seconds and then the rpms rise to normal. giving it gas does not automatically make the rpm go normal...
thoughts? Man I really hate to take it back. they did not replicate the issues, but not surprised.
here is a video (I hope) car is normal op temperature. let it sit for 20 minutes. this is what happens. this is a little nicer than it has been. rpms bounce a couple times and then they start to go up to normal range.
Looks like e-gas engine. Maybe try e-gas re-calibration first? Macster already gave a pretty extensive list.
Probably not a whole lot you can do as opposed to an in-depth diagnostic (Durametric scan and analysis, air leak test, etc.)
From your instrument cluster. What year and model is your car? If it's not e-gas, you may want to clean the idle stabilizer.
In fact, you may want to clean the throttle body as well (using throttle body cleaner).
Ideally yes (it's a rubber gasket) but I've reused mine a few times without any problems.
E-gas recal, just turn the key to the last position before cranking and leave it there for 30s with foot off the gas pedal. Then turn off the ignition and leave it there for 10s.
