Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks Ahsai--you helped me out again (my third radiator project used your drain the cooling system technique) Tom

And can the "flapper" which I'm cleaning be taken off the motor which I don't want to bother?

I did have to repair the brittle thin gasket with a couple of CA dots and got things back together without a hitch.

I was at the track this past Th/Fr and last run of the day the CEL came on.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all--a newbie here with only a few posts but have made great use of past postings for a bunch of DIY projects. I don't see any posts on the Idle Control Valve and code P1551 in the 996 forum so am creating one.
I was at the track this past Th/Fr and last run of the day the CEL came on. Ran a code reader--P1551 (IAC) and P1514 (Throttle Adjuster) codes. So I drove home without worry and I dutifully priced out the IAC and at $600+ thought it worth asking the community if anyone has experience with IAC codes.
I'll pull covers off this afternoon and get a visual--perhaps it's dirty? I have no idea what to begin thinking about other than replace or maybe clean it off. So please, any thoughts or experience is appreciated.
Tom
It's dirty for sure--any idea what I'd clean it with? Carb "gumout"? And can the "flapper" which I'm cleaning be taken off the motor which I don't want to bother? Any ideas?
Also, I see this part on carpartsdiscounts.com for $244.

You can try to activate it using a 9v or 12v battery and it should move freely. If not, you need to clean it with carb cleaner.

Thank you that's a big help--I'll take a look in the am and see what looks like a ground versus voltage in line on the connector. Perhaps it will be obvious. Tom
I cleaned out the IAC with a bunch of rounds of gumout carb cleaner--with paper towels and q-tips to get the edges and flap clean. Tested using a 12 power supply and it all performed as expected--fast and free moving (not sure what amperage the servo was looking for but 10a quickly didn't do any harm it seems).
I did have to repair the brittle thin gasket with a couple of CA dots and got things back together without a hitch. Cleared the codes, fired it up and it idled beautifully. I didn't mention that it idled terribly once the CEL came on--stalled when taking my foot off the gas and was lurching as well. Most pronounced with the car wasn't hot from the track. Anyway--all seems pretty nice and smooth which feels great.
