Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'horns' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'horns' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check back' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I removed my horns when I installed my center radiator.

Bumper has to come off, so you might as well plan on cleaning around your radiator while you're in there.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had just bought the car and knew the horn didn't work.
New owner of a 2000 C4 Cab. Enjoying the experience so far.
Only problem I'm having is the horn isn't working and I have scoured the forum looking for answers but one question I have hasn't been found
Where is the horn relay located?
Thanks,
There is also a fuse. I would check the horns as well since they are located in an area where, if the front drains are clogged, can be found sitting in a pool of water.
Just above and to the right of the fuses.
No need to pull the fuse panel cover, just get under the dash and look up.
Oh, and according to the owners manual, "defective relays should be changed only by an authorized workshop."
Let us know what you find. Keep in mind, as mentioned above, the horns location is poor, they eat a lot of water and fail frequently. Ask me how I know...
Agree, one of the horns on my car wasnt working, but I opted to replace both at the same time because the horns arent very expensive, and I wanted to do the job once. If it comes to that.
I removed my horns when I installed my center radiator.
If I recall correctly, it wasn't very difficult.
Bumper has to come off, so you might as well plan on cleaning around your radiator while you're in there.
FYI - It turned out to be my horns. Replaced both and they work as they should.
I also took the time to clean out my radiators, good grief there was a lot of crap in there.
Thanks to all
I went through this recently too. I had just bought the car and knew the horn didn't work. No big deal right? So 3 miles from my house on my way home after completing the purchase, I'm turning left in the outside of a dual left turn lane. This woman who is not in one of the left turn lanes decides to also turn left using the lane to the right of me. I lay on the horn by force of habit and of course nothing comes out. Not even a pathetic little squeak.
So getting the horn fixed becomes one of my top priorities. I knew the relay was good and the PO had tried to fix the airbag bracket. Replacing the horns didn't do it (but at least I have new ones now). I ended up having to replace the airbag bracket that the PO had unsuccessfully fixed. Horn works!
I had a similar thing happen to me the day after I fixed the horns except it was someone blowing through a yield sign when I had the right of way. Always feels good to teach folks how to drive by using your horn as a teaching tool.
Seems like a common occurrence. I knew my horns were bad and kept putting it off because I didn't want to pull the nose off. One day downtown on a one way street going through a cross street intersection on a green light a jacked up Ford pickup turned left directly into my lane right in front of me. Two things: I laid on the horn button and got nothing of course. At the same time I jumped on the brakes and the brakes in our cars are stupendous! I stopped short and don't think the pickup ever saw me. I put new horns in.
Hi. I have a 01 996 .1. On mine it is to the right side of the fuse bay, about halfway up. Btw, there is a horn-type sound for locking the car; that is not the horn. Also, I bought a VW horn relay on EBay for $5. Popped it in and that fixed my horn. If you need the exact slot for the relay let me know & Ill try to remember to check back.
