Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So basically speaking the "long block" is completely compatible ,but the "bolt-on" plastic parts of the top end need to be swapped over for a PLug-nPlay R&R..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2002 Porsche 911 Convertible Driven 200,000 miles I have a Porsche question if not appropriate for this forum, then please delete it. I recently bought a 2002 Porsche 911 base. The motor is blown. I noticed that the from 2002 - 2012 the base 3.6L long blocks are the same. Can I buy a newer long blocks and swap all the electrical/intake from the 2002 3.6L. Has anyone done it before? Is it doable. The 2002 3.6 is close to $11k while I can get a 2006 3.6L for $4000. Added value i wont have the IMS bearing issue. I would really appreciate an educated answer. Thanks

POST 2Original post

@Valben the 2002 3.6 M96/03 engine and the 2006 3.6 M96/05 engine are almost identical .... If you can get the M96/05 for $4k grab it quick !!! The M96/05 has a Vaccum pump/tandum pump on the bank 2 head that will need to be changed out, and the intake is an updated version as is the SAI pump and Vaccum lines,,,, So basically speaking the "long block" is completely compatible ,but the "bolt-on" plastic parts of the top end need to be swapped over for a PLug-nPlay R&R.. ...

Is it safe to say that up to 2012 the 3.6L long blocks are the same?

The engine architecture changed for MY2009 with the 9A1 for the standard (non-Turbo/GT) cars. I dont believe theyre compatible.
