Suspected cause

BMW is probably the closest but even the M3 doesn't really "look the part" (IMO).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A good read. Pretty amazing how well the 911 performs despite its rear engine config. http://www.autoblog.com/2014/10/09/m...tory-featured/

POST 2Original post

Thanks for the link. well written article. The 2 small seats was my argument many years ago. Still works even if our daughters are 11 and 14

Same for me, the back seats are the only reason I can drive a sport car everyday

POST 5Original post

The rear seats are the only reason I sold my boxster in favor of the family car... the 911. Thanks for link... great article!

POST 6Original post

+1 on the rear seats... funny how this seems to be one of the only entries in the high-performance sports car category with 4 seats.

That's funny, calling a 911 a family car I purchased Porsche's first mid engine car in 1973 which was also my first Porsche. It was the 914 2.0 and it was a blast to drive, and it felt almost impossible to flip I have not had the pleasure of driving the new Cayman, but the sales people at Auto Gallery tell me it is better than the 911

POST 8Original post

Hey... I need my justification to buy a 911 and get approval from the wife! "Family Car" goes very well. My local dealer gave me the new 2014 Cayman S w/ PDK for a weekend last year. It was a blast to drive! Took it to the twisties and put in few hundred miles on it. Also drove a bunch of 911s, Boxster and the new Cayman S on track (Porsche's invitation). I loved the Cayman's handling better than the 991. You toss that thing on the corners and it hugs and turns like anything. The 991 felt a bit heavier for me on the track. The Panamera GTS was a different animal on the track! Cheers, -K

I told my wife shed look hot driving it to cross fit and she was sold. But oddly enough, she hasn't driven it...back seats help.

I've been saying the same thing for years. I have 2 boys and the rear seats was the main reason why I started looking into 911s. I use my car as a DD, track car, and weekend cruiser and it does a great job at all 3. I think the Vette would have a slightly larger market if they add 2 little seats. BMW is probably the closest but even the M3 doesn't really "look the part" (IMO). The new Camaro Z28 is getting closer but it is still a Camaro. It feels like you are sitting in a tank since it doesn't have the great visibility of the 911.

POST 11Original post

I don't have kids but I have lots of "stuff" and when I want to take it with me it all gets tossed in those little back seats. Groceries, pets, jackets, picnic basket, that irresistable thing I just had to buy, etc. etc. The 911 is just simply unique...the design worked then and it works now. I only wished they had lightened up on all the electronics...I would have been just as happy with mechanical seats and manually adjustable mirrors and mechanically rolled up windows. And yes, I'm still not convinced the road car really needed to go water-cooled. The cheapest horsepower is still weight. But all these reservations aside, I do love driving my 996.

POST 12Original post

Since my 996 is in the shop, a buddy was kind enough to lend me his mid-engine Porsche so we're not down to a single car (the Corvette is summering in the mountains)... It's not QUITE as fast as the 996, but man is it fun to drive flat-out.

POST 14Original post

How are 914 values fairing lately? There is a nice looking 914 for sale near me... might be a fun little car to have. Might even become collectable one day

POST 15Original post

I love my 914. Values are increasing, and it's very hard to find good 914s. Post some pix and details, and i'll be glad to give an opinion of that car.

POST 16Original post

Finding a 914 that doesn't have rust in the problem areas (battery tray) or a rotten trunk is getting harder. The one in the photo is one of the most solid 914's I've seen. The paint on the rear deck is shot (it's got rust under the paint in several spots), but the body is solid and straight. If my buddy put $10K into a good paint job, a new dash, and a few items in the cabin, it could be a $20K car...but I don't think it'll ever happen. I ragged the hell out of that car for several hours yesterday...by the time I got back home, it was smoky, stinky, the brakes had boiled, and I had a grin on my face that ONLY comes from an awesome drive in a good car.

An article on mid engined Porsches, and a Carrera GT nowhere to be seen.

POST 18Original post

I thought the Carrera GT was banned due to being "Unsafe at Any Speed."
