Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking for recommendations of where I can get the IMS fixed in the SF Bay / Central Coast (Monterey) area of California. I am looking for recommendations from people that have had the work done. A quick comment on what people consider the best solution would also be appreciated - if there is a consensus. That's it.. I know it is a sore subject... so just looking for advice on next steps.. I am at 40K. No sign of trouble. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Get it done. BRRacing in Los Gatos did mine a couple of years ago; used the L&N retrofit kit. About $1500 all in. Now I sleep like a baby the night before I thrash my 996 on the track.

POST 3Original post

I used Flink Works Auto in Santa Clara to do Clutch/IMS/RMS for $2500 all in. The IMS bearing they put in was from LN engineering (from a year ago). No problems with their work so far. http://flintworksauto.com/

POST 4Original post

Can't help you with the shop, just make sure they've done lots of them. I had the original LN single-row bearing retrofitted 25K miles ago. The key to not having the LN bearing fail is to be sure the shop doesn't botch the installation, and that if your old bearing doesn't come out pristine, they need to seriously flush out the engine of any debris or it can screw up the new bearing.
