Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking for some Graphite Grey touch up for my 996 front seats. I thought of using shoe paste in gray to get into the small cracks and make it look better. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

POST 3Original post

"Leather Magic" has factory color-matched dyes that are an exact match to new. However, if your leather is dirty or shiny, then you'll need to steam it to get it back to the original color/sheen so that the factory dye will match.

POST 4Original post

I do not recommend Leather Magic. They had to send me two different bottles of color as they admitted their first batch was off. The second batch was off a bit too. Additionally, the dye/paint is semi-gloss in finish which is incorrect. Modern, clean automotive leather interiors are satin at best.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 15820108

Interesting. Leather Magic's Savannah Beige was dead on in my case. It wasn't very close before steaming the leather to remove the sheen, but matched after. Did you find a dye that was a better match?

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 15820128

Not yet. I could probably mix the two batches that they sent me and get a much closer match, but the sheen would still be off. I plan to stream clean one of the newly dyed areas to see if I can knock down the sheen a bit. If so, then Ill attempt a mix n match.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 15820287

I don't know if steam will take the sheen off of fresh dye. It's probably more effective at removing the sheen from on old leather (that has accumulated surface film over the years). RL user Atrox started this thread that really shed light on accumulated sheen for me -> https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...re-filthy.html

POST 8Original post

https://www.leatherworldtech.com/Lea...ion-s/1817.htm ^^This is good stuff... There are several threads here that you can see the results. I did my drivers seat and several other parts (steering wheel, e-brake and shifter/boot) and they all look great and hyave held up really well 3.5 yrs. on

POST 9Original post

I had good luck with the Leatherworldtech. Decent match for my graphite gray/space gray interior.

POST 11Original post

I've used this guys https://www.seatdoctors.com/shop/automotive-leather-dye and https://www.leatherworldtech.com/Aut...art-s/1843.htm Both good companies, but I feel the seatdoctors matched better.

I know Leatherique is highly regarded by communities for several different marques. I looked at getting some for my BMW but I just cant get past their website. It looks like a 20 year old conspiracy theory site, not a competent chemical manufacturer for high-end automobiles.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 16684195

haha I thought the same..

POST 15Original post

Seats are bathing overnight in Leatherique right now. Their website may be old school, but the product is the real thing. Ive used it on all my interiors including a Mercedes Deisigno Cashmere (very light off-white) interior and it has done the job every time. Its amazing to see with a white interior what this stuff actually takes off!

POST 16Original post

My issue right now is with the dyes.. leaving a shiny finish while the rest of my seat is matte.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 16684266

If the seats in 996s are essentially painted, then how would Leatherique do a bit of good? Im asking because I tried it a few years ago on my 996 and it didnt do anything. But now we are on a thread derail.....

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 16684341

Leatherique makes leather dyes in addition to cleaners and conditioners. Unlike most other suppliers, they require you to send them a 2x2 square of leather from under your seat for color matching.

POST 19Original post

Here are my leather treatment products. Love the Meguiars, and the black shoe polish really works well for some spots, including the steering wheel. I put some on a shop towel and rub it into the steering wheel, then finish off with a polish with a microfiber towel. No residue and it keeps the leather black.

POST 20Original post

I use leatherique produts to redo my seats which were in bad condition: I used a paint gun to shoot the dye mixed with distilled water. Im not a professional but they look good enough for an 18yrs old car! Have fun!

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 16686072

Dang that is pro quality. Did you redo the whole seat? Looks blended well.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 16686088

Thanks! But again pros are pros... Im just a DIYers who like trying things and improve his technique. That was the first seat, second one look even better and the rest of the interior was an easy job after that! For the seat, yes it was entirely redone. It was such in bad conditions that I had no other choice at least for the front of the seat, the back could have remain untouched. But I also did some touch-ups on the dash and the graphite gray from letherique matched perfectly. At first you wont believe so... the dye is darker and it seems that it will stay like this after application. After a short curing time I was looking at the work, trying to found defects, only to realize the part I redone was about 2in lower then the spot I was looking...
