Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
If anything bedsides the sunroof itself, its more likely the cable dried out vs motor.
Leading evidence: 'cable dried out vs motor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cable dried out vs motor' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check those too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
I am pretty sure you can reset the limits via the sunroof switch, but don't quote me on that!

Suggestion
As others have discussed this motor uses amperage draw for pinch protection, similar to the window motors.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Cant recall how I fixed it, I think just kind of jiggling the roof while it was moving and it fell back into place.
Every once in awhile my sunroof won't close all the way. It get half way and reopens and I have to give it 3 or 4 tries. The tilt function works fine.
I did a quick search but no luck with this issue. Thoughts?
If it really work that way there's is probably someting in board that tell the motor when to stop if the amp's are going too high or something similiar.
A "magic eye" would be too complicated I think.
When I did mine I greased the tracks but there's not much contact there.
I just removed the grease after a couple cycles.
Actually, I have not used my sunroof in a long time. Always seems to work okay. One thing to try is to re-teach the limits (like you do for the windows). Open all the way and continue to hold the button for 10 seconds. Then close and continue to hold the button for 10 seconds once it is closed. Every once in a while I open and spray everything with Silicone Spray Lube.
When I had problems with mine not working right, a new motor was the fix. The controller is integral with the motor and apparently they can go haywire and lose all the memory setpoints. There is a procedure for recalibrating it, and mine would work every time I did that, but then lose the calibration again after an ignition cycle or two.
If memory serves me right, you can remove the motor, which will let you manually open and close the sunroof by hand / with an allen to clean / lube the tracks / find any rough spots in the operation. I am pretty sure you can reset the limits via the sunroof switch, but don't quote me on that!
If you have lubed the tracks and looked for any debris in the track, my second go to would be the motor. As others have discussed this motor uses amperage draw for pinch protection, similar to the window motors.
You can tell the difference between limits and other issues by how it stops. If its going fine and then just cuts out then limits. If it slows down and grinds to a halt, not limits. Trickiest part of these is the last bit where it pushes up. Lubing rails doesnt help that much-the spot that needs it is not where youd expect. Make sure those riser parts are all moving freely, nothing blocking it, and lubed where they should be (just as important, not where they shouldnt be). Mine actually came off the tracks somehow and was rubbing the top of the roof at that last stage. Cant recall how I fixed it, I think just kind of jiggling the roof while it was moving and it fell back into place. Replacing motor will be an expensive ordeal, and probably not your root problem. If anything bedsides the sunroof itself, its more likely the cable dried out vs motor. Finally, dont overdo it with the grease or it will just attract dirt and make matters worse. MBZ has a special grease for their sunroofs that seemed to work well for the Porsche too. Meantime, you can help it along by gently pushing forward/up from inside while its closing. Porsche put out a TSB or two for sunroof issues. So you might check those too.
