Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace engine mounts out at same time' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace engine mounts out at same time' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know I can search this forum and find tons of shock absorber stuff, but I want something current. I have a 2002 C4S and my rear shocks are leaking. Trying to order some stock replacements (stock is PLENTY stiff on a C4S) from Pelican Parts, but they are sold out of the Bilstein models. They have a Koni Special Active Damper (P/N KON-8245-1255). Have any of you tried these? Any recommendations?
Thanks for any help!
Reviews say Koni Special Active red dampers (formerly called FSDs and gold) are both smoother riding and tighter handling, and I plan on installing them in the future. Tirerack.com has them for $229/$186 so these apparently perform better than stock B4 Bilsteins which cost much more. Also Tirerack says there may be fitment issues with lowered suspensions.

I found more info online but don't have it scanned, all of it supports Koni Special Actives.
I have them on my 99 C2 and I love them. Very firm corning but sharp harsh bumps like road reflectors you hear but not feel.
I plan on using them on my Mini Copper as well.
Mine are also paired with 1" lower Eibach springs and sway bars.
Glad to hear this. I'm going with Koni's as well. I've always been a aftermarket Bilstein guy but I've noticed how firm they ride, and not in a "controlled firm" like the way a Lotus Evora rides where it can be incredibly supple over harsh bumps and expansion joints, yet responsive and firm with sharp inputs and steering. Sounds like the Koni is more like that.
Ironically the Evora rides on bilsteins as well, but the Lotus approach to suspension tuning seems to be different than the german approach. I noticed the same feel in a McLaren too. Maybe it's a british thing.
#1 - There are better/less expensive vendors than Pelican... Warehouse 33 comes to mind(10% Rennlist discount off of what are already better prices than Pelican), and there are many others...As far as the different brands of shocks/struts go, without trying them all out (on your car) and making a direct comparison, anything you do will be pure conjecture. This doesn't mean it won't be good, but it's simply a crap shoot. It doesn't matter what anyone tells you... The upside is that no matter what you do, new shocks/struts will be night and day compared to what you're riding on now (17 year old suspension). Personally, I went with Bilstein (B8 with H&R sport springs) because that's what Porsche uses, and that's what fit my budget at the time. Good luck
I have a 2003 targa with 78,000 miles, just fitted the
Koni Special Active red dampers
with new tops, also changed engine mounts out at same time. They ride smooth and corner very well, glad I installed and price was great.
Cool, good to hear. Konis are on sale right now and I've been curious about these. They seem popular in 993 land but there's not a lot of feedback from 996 folks.
Would you say they feel stiffer than stock, especially when cornering? And are you on stock springs?
