Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Loosened up the latch and stuck the cable in, carefully tightened the latch back to the body and the cable worked on the initial pull but also popped back out the latch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

One of the first things I did when I purchased my 996.2 a few months ago was to remove the front bumper and clean out the radiator ducts (seemed like the #1 quarantine project at the time as well). I noticed the emergency cable going into the fender well and wanted to make sure it was functional. Tugged on the cable and it wouldn't budge. Followed the cable and found it was stuck in one place. Pulled the cable from where it was stuck then gave it another pull. This time the whole cable came out, turns out the end of the cable was not connected to the latch. Loosened up the latch and stuck the cable in, carefully tightened the latch back to the body and the cable worked on the initial pull but also popped back out the latch. Checked the p/n (

thinking the latch may be missing some sort of retaining clip but I'm not seeing anything like that on the assembly or the parts diagram. The bumper will be coming off again soon so want to figure this out while I'm in there.
How do I keep this cable in place where one slight movement doesn't cause it to dislodge from the latch? Am I just not fitting the cable end into the latch properly? I'll mess around with it some more once the bumper is off but want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Assuming this shouldn't be stuck in here
Cable dislodged
Cable attached but dislodges with slightest movement
Take a pair of pliers and squeeze the gold metal part together. There should only be enough room to barely get the cable out. Then it will stay put. Run the other end of the cable to just inside the tow hook plug. Works great from there and easy to access.
Easy enough, I'll definitely give that a try. Good call on relocating the cable to the tow hook plug, I'll be removing the headlights anyway so will go ahead and bring the cable down while I'm in there. Thanks so much!
I was planning to do this, but it seemed like Id have to remove the bumper cover. Also wondered how the angles would work. Instead I extended the cable another foot or so and placed it behind the front side marker light housing (which just pops out). So the cable follows the path originally intended, but you dont have to remove the front wheel & fender liner to access it.
