Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

I believe the odd behavior is due to the load sensor deciding that you have something stuck in the window, so it re-opens.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1999 996 C2. Put up the window after pulling into garage, step out and close the door, window goes to half open (or closed, depending on your outlook) Did make some uncomforable grinding noises prior to this, but window seems to still be in track. Get back into the car, put window back up, step out and close door, same thing..... My guess is actuator for opening and closing window the last half inch when shutting door has lost it's compass. Any ideas? Thanks

POST 2Original post

The first thing to try is to reset the window limits. Press the window down button and once it reaches the lower limit, continue to hold the down button for 10 seconds. Then press the up button and when the window closes at the limit continue to hold the up button for 10 seconds. This procedure also resets the auto down and up of the window.

POST 3Original post

Mine was doing that at one point after replacing the regulator. Ended up needing a new motor. I believe the odd behavior is due to the load sensor deciding that you have something stuck in the window, so it re-opens. For your safety I think you can swap the motor without removing the glass and regulator. But I might be wrong there.
