Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a 2004 996 Cabriolet about two weeks ago, and drove it three hundred miles home, the next day I started it and drove it the CEL came on, a misfire on #5 and a lean condition on that bank. I chalked it up to likely bad gas on the trip home. I reset the code drove it another tank of gas or so. Parked it for a week until I got back home, in the middle of the heat today I started it and about 10 minutes after start up in this heat the CEL came on again. I was taking it to have the windows tinted and some cosmetics fixed on it. I didn't get a chance to pull the codes, but will be picking it up. The day before I got it back, it was just picked up from the prior owner from them paying for a PPI from the Porsche dealer and having about 2600 of a tune up done to the car. I don't remember everything but I know they did plugs hoses belts etc. I did have a 1999 996 that the IMS went on years ago, I was hoping not to have to worry on this one for a bit, as I want to do a LS in it. What should I look for or be worried about? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Coil pack, fuel injector, vac leak would be the easy and less expensive things. Bad lifter or valve or bore scoring would be the more expensive things. Since someone was in there "fixing" the ignition system with a tune up, i would contact them and see if there work was under warrentee. If not it would be the first place i would start. Maybe it was the reason for the tune up? U need someone with the right tools to diagnose the system or u r just throwing parts at it.

POST 3Original post

What are the codes? May be the Mass Air Flow sensor.
