Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone! I just picked up a 99 996. Traveling at 75 on the freeway there is a lot of wind noise. Cannot hardly talk or hear the radio. Seems like it is the rear window or the sunroof. I looked at back window from outside and I see no seal. Is this normal? Sunroof closed tight too? I also need a new key. Any sources for factory keys on the forum? Is this just a plastic case with a light? I thought it was a door lock fob? If not can and how would I get 1? Thank you in advance!

POST 2Original post

Yes, there should be a seal around the rear window. I would also check the side window alignment. If it’s not adjusted properly you can get a lot of wind noise there as well.

POST 3Original post

Second...seal is around rear window. As for another key, dealer because it has to be programmed to the car and only the dealer has the software to do it. Having another laser cut blade is one thing, programming the key to the security system is a dealer option only.

POST 4Original post

I just had a spare key made for mine at a dealer and it costs almost $500 so be ready for that. If your car gets locked and you lose or damage your key then it will be thousands of dollars to replace the immobilizer. PorscheTech3 has a thread on here about a cheap DIY spare key option if youre comfortable doing it that way; wish I had seen it sooner.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Appreciate the feedback. I guess I have some work to do tomorrow. The car was re painted so probably the side windows as well as the rear seal. Not sure where to get a new 1 tho.
