last summer, I received a MS Surface for free at a trade show (it was the top of the line Surface, with the most RAM, etc).
Leading evidence: 'top of the line surface' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'top of the line surface' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect oil filter yourself, send off the oil sample' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

6-oil filter was not removed today, however, we performed an oil and filter change less then 1000 miles ago and tested for metal at that time.

The only thing on the list that jumps out is that the servicing shop is now inspecting their own work.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got my PPI done today, would welcome your thoughts and interpretation on some of the info...:
"We have the PPI complete.
Based off your list, 1-all power windows and regulator work with no issues.
2-heated seats do work.
3-a/c and heat work, a/c freezes you out, but its only 60 up here today.
4-test drive normal, clutch, transmission, steering, and suspension feel good.
5-no smoke seen from exhaust on accel.
6-oil filter was not removed today, however, we performed an oil and filter change less then 1000 miles ago and tested for metal at that time. There was none.
7-the stereo is an aftermarket JVC double din with amp, Bluetooth, Pandora, aux usb, and works fine.
8-over rev codes, type 1, 9138/2705h
Type 2, 0/0h
Over all inspection found 1 license plate light out, very minor oil leak from oil separator hose, l/f upper strut mount hose minimal play on hoist.
Brake pads are all at 11mm, front tires 4/32 and rears 7/32."
Any thing here jump out at you guys?
Leak from oil separator jumps out. Anything leaking is not good but sounds like all fixable just a little pricey. Did they give an estimate on fixing it all?
Where are you that it's 60?
I would bet its just some mist film from one of the tubes and not a dripping leak. The vapor connectors aren't sealed with bolts and o rings at the top.
I guess we'll see what the ax grinders have to say.
wait.,...did you commission this PPI? or was this the PPI done by the place that youre buying it from? Reason I ask is because of this from the report:
"we performed an oil and filter change less then 1000 miles ago and tested for metal at that time. There was none"
id get my own done and not trust the sellers ppi

Ideally
this would not be the case.
However, I don't think it would dissuade me from buying the car if that were the one I wanted. I would have to decide if I was going to have another shop do a second PPI. Your impressions of the car, the seller, and the shop would definitely play into that.
All that being said, I drove 3 hours with a cashiers check and cash, did my own PPI, and bought a car. Fortunately the seller was a mechanic and I was able to use the lift at the shop he worked at for my DIY PPI. But, I'm certainly not a certified Porsche mechanic and I opted to save the PPI money. You may opt to accept the PPI you have. I can't speak for the other Rennlisters, but I won't throw any stones at you for it!
That seems like a very superficial report, compared to my PPI. Do you have any service history? No report on inspection for repaired / repaint, fluid checks / condition, belts, hoses, air filter, coolant condition, battery check...... Heck you could have anything from a bad battery to an intermix issue there based on that short list.
Unless the garage is actually profiting from the sale, I personally would prefer their opinion to a PPI done by some unknown shop. Being able to pull up all of the service records can yield a lot more info than knowing how much moisture there is in your brake fluid...
The shop that did the PPI is an Indy shop. Also, the seller of the car is being relocated from Minnesota to Arizona - so as far as I can tell, there is no reason for the shop to support the seller in the sale of the car... he is moving cross country, so I doubt he will be giving them business again any time soon.
The PPI i posted above was just the portion of the PPI of "additional points" I asked for them to check - there was a whole other PPI (the shop's standard PPI form) which they also emailed me.
Also, the shop (from what I can tell) has a good reputation here with Rennlisters (Courtney Truck).
Liscense plate light out? Run away as fast as you can.
Seriously from the basic info car you've posted it sounds good,
Water pump?
Coolant resovoir ?
Didn't read if the dreaded bearings have been sorted?
Pay for the extra oil filter, have them replace the oil filter. Have them ship you an oil sample from the oil filter can and the filter. Inspect the oil filter yourself, send off the oil sample to blackstone for analysis. It's only got 1k but then the report should be fairly clean. Better than buying a car that just had an oil change, at least for analysis purposes.
If you're not this OCD, just have the buyer agree to replace the bulb with an OEM Porsche approved n-5 rated bulb and you should be good to go.
AOS is your call but I would find out how much to repair everything from the place.
4/32 means the front tires are on its last leg.
Lastly PPI is a lot like a home inspection, lots of variances in the quality and details.
How many milea on car ?I think you need to post complete report. I would also not do ppi at place where owner serviced it..but you are there now .. So ...is there service history ? Did you also run carfax ? Take vin to Porsche dealer and see if they will run history for you. What brand of tires ? ( tells you something about previous owner - Michelin = no expense spared, Chinese tires = didn't care etc. ) has po. Tracked the car? No signs of oil in coolant ? Indicator stalk working properly ( ie does it self cancel after turn) ....
Aos could be around $1k to replace
I bought my Boxster S from an OPC with more range 1 over revs than that AND they gave me a 12 month Porsche warranty, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
Its the range 2 over revs that can be problematic....
Hi Targa 996,
I have the service history from Porsche going back several years, and there is nothing which would concern me, personally. 1 blown fuse on drivers power seat, new brakes, new clutch, new battery.
The car has 105k miles.

well you use a mac so you make bad decisions anyway and toss your money away on silly over priced hardware as it is. I say your good to go.
j/k how much do they want for it?
RngTrtl - seller was asking $19.5k,we agreed to $17k.
Also... for decades I hated Macs... I was PC all the way. But after years of burning through IBM Thinkpads, Dells, Toshibas... (the hardware usually lasted 6 months before breaking... and I am very careful with my laptops), I decided to give Macs a try. In summer of 2012 I bought a MacBook Air. Two years later - and I've only had one hiccup - had the OS hangup during a softare update, but I just did a Time Machine restore, and an hour later all was OK. I'll never go back to PC... my iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Macbook all work together perfectly, reliably, with zero problems. Also... last summer, I received a MS Surface for free at a trade show (it was the top of the line Surface, with the most RAM, etc). I used it once - and then gave it away. The thing was junk. On my ipad, I can leave it sitting for a month or longer, in "sleep" mode and the battery will not loose more than a few % of charge. The Surface would drain the battery and die in about half a week, while in "Sleep" mode. It was also heavier, thicker, clunkier, and much harder to use than iPad. Also, most of the things I wanted to use it for, it could not do (ie, I wanted to play Pandora... didn't work).
Luckily Porsche is not made by Microsoft :-P
Having it shipped down to me, hopefully in a week or two. Now just need to sell my BMW 750i and BMW Z3... although I do love the Z3... has been super reliable in over 7 years!
17 seems pretty good to me. Glad you went forward with it! I really hope you enjoy it.
PC Master Race for life! I built my machine, rooted my android, and have google tv...No hiccups and all is seemless on my network
(poke poke) I also gave away an iPad to my 4 year old niece, at least she got some use out of it. [all in good fun sir]
Like "Soaringman" (see above) suggests, maintenance history is important with these great cars. A PPI is like an annual physical exam, a snap shot. Mntce. history is like your medical file/family history, and probably more predictive of the future than the PPI.
