Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am trying to decide between buying new wheels or just refinishing my twist wheels and paint them black. Anyone have any pictures with black on black wheels. Thanks!!
Look at the tire rack app that shows you your car in your color with a variety of (aftermarket) wheels. You can get an idea of what they would look like.
Here is a super hacky job at it.
I did 3 versions, flat black, gloss black, gloss black with a chrome lip. They aren't perfect the blacks got jacked up in jpg conversion, but they should give you an idea.
BTW you need to get the rust of those routers, it ruins the look.
Not if you get hollow spokes which are comparable to some of the lighter Porsche wheels available, but I do agree about the '02 Carrera wheels and would've chosen those if I didnt' want to stay period correct(mk1).
Not mine but one of my favs when it comes to black on black twists:

both pics look good but the gloss black twists with the Aero look downright at home
..no mods necessary...
Really?!...thats one of the things keeping me from going to silver/stock wheels. These are very easy to keep clean! Black obviously doesnt show dust as bad as silver, and a wheel sponge (a microfiber covered sponge with a handle) cleans between the spokes in no time flat...all four wheels clean in less than 5 minutes. Brake dust wipes right off the powdercoated finish.
Thanks...they were not cheap. About $1100 each when they were new. They are made by Work Wheels. Made specifically for Porsche...No spacers required!...but Im ready for a change I think.
So I have a guards red 996TT w/ Chrome (they look chrome) Twisties....not a big fan of chrome, but like the style.
Question 1a & 1b
Should I get them painted or powder coated?
or
Buy new wheels and sell these?
Question 2
What color? (I was thinking about a titanium...not quite black...not quite silver).
a titanium ( graphite, etc) wheel would look nice with the Red, provided you can sell your current wheels.
these would look nice ( for OEM look ) and relatively easy to maintain...
Chrome is hard to strip(compared to paint) so I would start with non-chrome wheels to powder coat. It will save on headaches and labor. And lucky for you TT twist wheels seem to be on the used market all over the place these days. If you like the twist style, I say go for it. Powdercoating should last the lifetime of the car and is a nice alternative to giving your car a new look. I'm getting my BBS wheels done as we speak.
hmm.... $20-40 in paint or $3-5K for new wheels/tires
No one will buy those 18" twists anyway, so they will be kept either for snows or well, because you painted them a nice black. No silver lip. Lips only look nice on a nice deep dish wheel.
You could also consider an accent color to play better off the black.
I like em, so they may be lame. people have questioned my taste before.
What's important is if you like them. If you do get them and put some serious miles on them.
Ryan I had the same problem but not with the twisties, I took them off (just never liked those wheels) still have them if somebody is interested. I looked & looked and I finally went with the silver finish, but i have the black lugnut covers & black center cap. The black looks meaner but to me they just look dirty all the time, don't know why but thats my opinion. Guess it just depends what look your going for, the black with the chrome trim look better to me because at least theres some kind of deviance between the wheel & tire.
r1de23 I think those would look great on your car, I almost got some just like those but I still couldn't decide if I wanted them in black or silver, but they are staggered too which I like & the chrome trim really sets them off. Really depends if you want that mean all blacked out look, I just think with the silver your car would have some kind of seperation, the wheels would stand out but not over take the car. IMO
i know what your saying.. unless you constantly put tire shine of the tires the black rim with tire looks bad sometimes... i may hold off until after the winter.. in the mean time i will save up to but a nice set of wheels instead of those ebay cheap no name brand wheels. They do look decent for replicas though. I'm sure they weigh a ton.
r1de23, I'm not 100% positive but I think ANY chrome rims in the Porsche crowd is not a very popular choice, at least the few times i've seen it discussed. Just check around & you'll get some ideas. Go Cornhuskers, I think they've got one of LSU's old assistant coaches as their head coach(Bo Pelini) He ought to do good there.
haha, im just keeping an open mind about it. I'm not going to base my decision on someone's opinion. Someone vehicles can get away with chrome wheels, I'm not sure if the the 996 is one of them or not. (i Need a picture)
Hey RPMulli your PM box is full so sorry for resurrecting this post from the dead lol but I absolutely love the rims on your 996. I have the exact same car and am looking right now to replace my stock rims. Do you mind sharing the ones you are running in your picture? Also what tire size you recommend to run with them. Thanks in advance!
Both these cars look great. I'm definitely settled on the black rims. Is cleaning minimal compared to the alloys? I find these cars create a lot of brake dust... Gets really annoying with all the stop and go traffic here in LA...
