Yeah I've heard mixed opinions about the auto dimming (especially breaking down/leaking after a while) so I figured I'd use the bare windshield to pick something else up.

My autodimming mirror broke and i'm wondering if its possible to replace it from a non-autodimming mirror from another 996? I have 02 996tt and while I dont mind send it into repair, I cant have a downtime on my car. So I was thinking I buy the non-autodimming mirror as a spare and send mine in for repair. However, looking online I noticed that the mounts seem to be different between the autodimming mirror and non-autodimming mirror. Let me know if its possible.

Bump an old thread. My car has zero mirror or windshield mount - so I can pick anything. I was thinking of avoiding the auto-dimming b/c of mixed reviews and longevity. I don't mind a non-auto dimming mirror at all as flipping it at night is not a big deal for me. Anyone have any recommendations of what would fit in the 996 nicely (and cheaply)?

Don't have a mirror recommendation, but I despise the autodimming ones. Can't see squat in them... nearly impossible to make a safe lane change in heavy freeway traffic at night.

I replaced my driver's side with convex and no auto-dimming. I use the most rear memory setting at night to tilt the mirrors down just enough. I also use the ignition key memory setting to move the seat fully rearward for easier entry/exit
