Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Want to disable or remove it altogether. I don't care to waste my time troubleshoot it . Stupid alarm goes off for no reason. I have insurance so I don't care .

POST 4Original post

press the remote a second time when locking the car. Car will beep, indicating internal motion alarm is disabled. That's probably what's going off.

Pedro's Garage and a couple other places can reprogram your ECU to bypass the alarm. But for a streetcar you should just get it fixed, especially if insurance is covering it. Drop it off at the dealer and let them deal with it while you drive one of their loaner Caymans.

Sorry to barge in here... Do you mean like at "double" click speed? Would this save on power as well when in stand-by? Basically, I only drive my car during the weekend (long live public transportation ) so after my last drive on a Sunday afternoon until the following Friday evening, the remote no longer reacts and I need to first unlock the car (key left turn) and then press the button to disarm the alarm... Would the "double press" prolong the stand-by function on the remote?

I would say a 1 to 2 second pause between clicks. The car will beep to confirm your second press. This disables the internal motion sensor alarm, in case there is someone waiting in the car for you. This is documented in the owner's manual. I don't believe this will have any effect on the long-term remote standby lockout. After the car sits for a week, I too need to unlock it with the key.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I press the remote to arm the car. Then press it again to disarm then walk away. It will auto arm in about 30 seconds. No more stupid siren going off for no reason.

It is not remote that stops responding, its car going to sleep after 5 days of not being used. Car does this to preserve the battery.

Yeah, I know... Wrong choice of word there Btw, is there a way of locking the car without activating the alarm?

POST 12Original post

I am not sure if this is the right thread but I will try anyway. On my 1999 C4 the alarm seems to work fine but there is no horn or siren when it activates. The light all flash so it appears to be triggering but no sound. I guess I am not making myself clear. YES I know there is no audible beep when activating or deactivating the alarm system. BUT when I set it off by throwing something inside or opening a door without the key there is also no audible sound, the lights just sit there and flash. I would thin the the alarm is tripped it should make some sort of noise :-) Any clue ? Marc

POST 13Original post

There is no confirmation "beep" when locking the car. If it does beep then one of the zones is open indicating a fault. To the OP - simply disconnect the wire to the alarm horn. Then it won't sound off.

I think his original post is asking where to find the horn so it can be disconnected.

POST 15Original post

The alarm horn on the 2003 was to the left of the battery. That won't top the alarm from going off, just won'have a "music" to go with the light show. Lomax check yours to see if your horn is disconnected.

POST 16Original post

Update, The alarm horn is just to the left side of the battery and I found that mine was just unplugged. So now I know how to make it work or how to defeat it if I start getting false alarms. Thank you ALL for the fantastic help on this issue. To the OP, if you don't want the alarm to SOUND just unplug the alarm horn. Marc

Passenger side left or driver's side left?

POST 18Original post

Drivers side left when sitting in the car. For a left hand drive anyway.
