Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ahh so im guessing you got it slightly open then used pliers so pop the clip?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My red tach face finally made its way from the Netherlands. Porschedials.com did an excellent job crafting the face. I would be lying if I said wasn't a little nervous tackling this install due to how fragile the cluster is. All turned out well in the end and I really like the look.
Porschedials.com tach face guards red
Removed the pod cluster from the dash
Pod cluster is off. Good time to clean the dash prior to reassembly
Gauge cluster
Gauge cluster disassembled
Tach needle off. Required a good bit of pressure. Also need to remove current black face, including metal grommet in the center.
Success! Red tach face installed.
Gauge cluster back in the pod. Ready for mounting back in the car.
Back in and everything works!
Needles aligned and in sync with Dashcommand tach.
Looks proper!
Night time view.
Love it. Why do I have the sudden urge to do this mod when my 996 is still up for sale???
Because the 996 looks better than it EVER has when it's sitting in the garage next to the 997.
So much, in fact, that I'm convinced the car is sending me subliminal messages in my sleep. The 996 is puffing out its chest like a little brother trying to out do his older sibling. I won't be surprised if I open the garage door one day and discover the 996 has beat the crap out of the 997 and scavenged it for parts.
As yours its abit more indepth than mine, ill add my part here for future reference for others.
So i had an issue removing the grommet in the middle
And getting 'worried' that i would end up breaking the spindle/mech inside took it to a pro (reap automotive), anyway if anyone else is having issues with it, he heated up the top side with a hairdryer (5 seconds roughly) then got a small screwdriver under the top lip and slowly levered it up then once enough for finger nails, just popped it out. Id have said it took less than a minute to do.
Then luckily, it turns out that i hadnt popped the mech and so should still work once i plug it in. If anyone in the UK is tempting to do it, for the sake of what it cost me, id just get him to do it as he has the spares there to use if something breaks.
Looks great, any tips on getting the the cluster apart?
So far i've removed the 2 screws, 2 clips on either side and the bottom clips but it seems stuck above the tacho?
I know there is a clip under there, what did you use to get it open?
Thanks!
Ahh so im guessing you got it slightly open then used pliers so pop the clip? Did you scratch the top?
I gave it another shot but didn't get anywhere
Thanks!
Thanks I have seen that site, he mentions working the clip free with your hands but i've tried that! I think maybe a plastic interior removal tool might do the trick. Just dont want to scratch the cluster
Yup did exactly that, twisted it slightly left and right and pulled up and off it came! Not a job for the feint hearted
next step is to take off the needles which is proving just as difficult!
