Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I guess I meant to say that when I set the alarm off the lights just sit there and flash.
Leading evidence: 'Set alarm off the lights just sit there and flash' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'aftermarket something' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check alarm horn, next' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Check the alarm horn, next to the battery, to see if is disconnected or broken/missing.

I'm guessing that one of the previous owners had a false alarm issue, and their "repair" was to clip the lead to the horn...

Hitting the lock button twice and getting a beep indicates the alarm is set but the interior motion sensor has been turned off.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am not sure if this is the right thread but I will try anyway.
I just bought a nice 1999 C4 Cabriolet and the alarm seems to work fine but there is no horn or siren when it is set off. The light all flash so it appears to be triggering but no sound.
There is also a strange little red button inside the center console that I have no clue as to what it is. Probably an aftermarket something. The PO and the PPO had no idea what I was talking about to they must have never even known it was there.
Any clue ?
Marc
When my alarm goes off the horn goes with the flashing lights or continuously (can't remember which but the horn sounds). Mine is a 99 cab C2. To cancel the alarm I have to switch the car on/start the engine. The red button may control a police radar detector hidden near the front air intakes. There was one on mine which had rotted away so I removed all the wiring and have a newer 'cobra' inside the cockpit.
Thanks Hurdi, I thought there should be some sort of audible tone be it the horn or a siren. I guess I will just have to assume that my alarm system has been FU'd by one of the previous owners.

*edit* I found it humorous that there is another new thread entitled "Where is the alarm siren" with the following text: "Want to disable or remove it altogether. I don't care to waste my time troubleshoot it . Stupid alarm goes off for no reason. I have insurance so I don't care ."
Hitting the lock button twice and getting a beep indicates the alarm is set but the interior motion sensor has been turned off. Such as if you have a pet or pet fly in the car.

Update,
The alarm horn is just to the left side of the battery and I found that mine was just unplugged. So now I know how to make it work or how to defeat it if I start getting false alarms.
Thank you ALL for the fantastic help on this issue.
