The ONLY exception is the IMS Solution, which can have it's bushing removed and replaced countless times with zero adverse effects due to the plain bearing design.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

We've seen used IMSBs pop up before. I'd love to know if anyone ever actually buys them and if so what the hell they are doing with it?
If it is in such good condition that it can be reused, why didn't they just slap it back in and send the upgraded bearing back?
At $300 it damn well should come gold plated!
Now if it was a more realistic free for the cost of shipping, then I might pick it up so I can have a complete dual and single row set
gnat: No I'm a risk taker and I think I still have an original hand grenade in my car. Wished it was me as it is funny. How much does it cost to gold plate an imsb?
Twas a joke. I think it's safe to say that if the seller is a poster here, they won't be fessing up
In my case I had to pay their minimum run cost which was $325. A stupid waste of money, but it's hilarious to hear all the incorrect guesses I get.
It might be a little less than 25-30 miles since it's made in Poland. We all know the Polish IMS bearings are the ones that had the most problems. Jake can confirm this...
Nope. Still can't do it. I just can't fathom why someone would say "Oh ****! This IMSB stuff is crazy. I need to change mine out NOW!" and then go buy a used one to install...
It's like a joke from KC. It just doesn't make sense.
makes total sense to spend $300 + shipping for a used IMS bearing and then pay $1200 for installation and continue to worry about the bearing exploding.
placing bid now
kcattorney already confessed it was his post. He must have found the used IMSB in the frunk of his Guards Red Turbo and realized he didn't need it for a spare.
if you can believe i am shopping for a C4S now - located one that has me itching to buy - will know for sure in a couple weeks - i'm already looking to sell it :-)
this one i will keep for a while - forgetting the boat idea till a couple years down the road
i also said i would never sell my 59 356 sunroof - didn't quite keep my promise - like KCattorney says: "never say never" - is that a bond movie title?
If anyone's interested, I'll be willing to sell my replaced IMS bearing for 10% below whatever the Ebay guy receives.
I'll throw in a used condom and some Y2K protective software, just to sweeten the deal.
I just made an offer to him of $20 plus $7.95 shipping.
You are all huge pussies if you don't submit a higher offer.
Personally, I'd start at $20.01 and then post it here so that the next guy can submit an offer for $20.02 and so on.
Ya know -- suppose some enterprising cheap skate wanted to build a DIY squirter bearing lube jobber? This might not be a bad deal for the little flange part. I mean, get a new dual row bearing, pry the seals off, drill yur squirt hole, thread the outside and viola - squirter port by U-Make-It.
I'll give him $25 for it, and toss the bearing.
I was wondering how long it would take for this auction to pop up, LOL. This is a relist as it did not sell the first time... I wonder why? Might as well put a hand grenade bask there.
OK, seller didn't respond to my first offer of $20 for the used bearing with a "Buy It Now" of $299. So, today I submitted a new, higher offer. $21. I can't believe no one else has out-offered me at one penny more.
Looks like a decent deal to me. Maybe I should replace mine with that one since it looks okay! It has more mileage on it than mine, too, which people say is a good thing. If it had 100K miles on it, I'd go for it for sure.

As soon as an IMSB is extracted the ***** and races are microscopically dented. This compromises the integrity of the bearing permanently.
Any bearing thats extracted should be discarded, and never used again. This includes IMS Retrofit components.
The ONLY exception is the IMS Solution, which can have it's bushing removed and replaced countless times with zero adverse effects due to the plain bearing design. I have had the same IMS Solution in 8 different test engines, no worries.
Jake,
I don't think anyone here is considering using an old original bearing that was pulled from an engine
All the comments are tongue in cheek
You did not need to make a pitch for your product
In any case, keep up the great work, you are appreciated
The tongue in cheek statements prompted a PM to me from someone asking if they could reuse an IMS Bearing, hence resulting in my comments here.
The IMS Solution is my invention, but its not my product.
That said, what I sad was not a sales pitch, even though you people always feel that a post is only made for monetary purposes on this forum.
I was merely stating from a technical perspective that the plain bearing design of the IMS Solution is the only IMS Retrofit product that can be extracted, and reused.
Again, the member who PM'd me this also asked that question. I replied here so others could see my response. That was clearly a mistake. So much for answering someone's question directly. Its all an advertisement, isn't it?? Funny, I don't even sell the product that I supposedly tried to "pitch". Amazing.
Wow. I'm sorry if I offend whoever asked you that question, but wow!
If you know enough about the IMSB situation to know who F6I and Jake Raby are, how do remotely consider installing a used IMSB as a plausible option?
I get this slime ball on eBay possibly screwing over someone that doesn't know anything more than "OMG! IMSB! MUST SWAP NOW!". But if you've done the least bit of research to find out why people panic about it, how could you conclude installing a used one is better than just keeping what you've got already?
Ha ha, Jay, you got in trouble! You live in San Diego - haven't you learn not to taunt the United States Marines? Learned that first week of boot camp. Even as an O-6, I still got nervous around a Marine Corps Gunny.

I really don't want to pick a fight with you Jake, but you can't have it both ways
Yes you did invent a great product, but it is a PRODUCT!. Maybe you don't manufacture it. You do however promote it ( as you should) and sell it
It is never a mistake to answer a question directly. It's not the message, it's how you present it that makes it sound like a sales pitch and you do sell it at F6I
Please don't get your knickers in a twist and stop posting. You are a valuable brain trust and a valued contributor

F6I doesn't sell the Solution. The only way to get one from them is as part of an engine build.
Even still, he is a paid sponsor of the forum and thus has every right to pimp his products (which would be engine rebuilds and classes) if he chooses to do so.
Personally I don't think he did here as I read it as a comparison of how the two bearings differ.
This is how I perceived it too but us old timers that's been around long enough are too desensitized by having read his older posts that did sound like a sales pitch all the time. Trust me(us), he's toned it down by 1000% compared to the old posts.
We sell zero products here at retail, or even wholesale offering. This morning someone PM'd me wanting to buy some used coil packs that we have hundreds of that are good. I told him I'd send him some, but I have no way to sell them to him. I'm like to just give them to him, because he isn't a dick thats busting my ***** all the time, saying I'm a salesman in every post.
We INSTALL the IMS Solution only. No where in my "sales pitch" did I state "Send me your car for the IMS Solution". Here thats the only way you can buy it, and even then, I must buy the product from a distributor, just like every other shop in the world. My part of that has been over for years now, I have zero to do with it, in any capacity, and thats how a developer should work. I invent, then develop, then hand it off to someone with more patience to deal with people than I have.
Selling things is the part of this business that I hate, thats why I closed the online store in 2011 and haven't sold a single part since then. If I'd allow parts to be sold, and wanted to deal with the nightmares of having a sales team things would be twice as profitable here, but none of that matters to me. I just want to be left alone, and be able to say "call the person you bought it from". That means more to me than anything, and each week I feel stronger and stronger about this. When we sold parts people would take advantage of the scenario, just so they could demand assistance, and they'd complain if they didn't get exactly what they wanted. What a disaster.
Jake, why not just refer ppl to
http://theimssolution.com/
? That avoids all the unnecessary interpretation.
The site is very educational and contains all the technical info one needs. I always believe ppl can be educated
While I agree with you, however in this case, he was just merely stating some important facts which are probably hard to find or non-existent on the ims solution site.
Well - technically they
can
reuse it, as long as the ***** haven't fallen completely out of the race.
The question becomes
should
they reuse it. And to that I say if you are a vendor of the IMS product, why absolutely sir - put that used $30 bearing back in your $15,000(repl cost) engine. Go right ahead, and here's my card.
(tongue firmly in cheek as well)
I don't know about that. It's an interesting tidbit he offered up about the Solution, but I think having it actively promoted would conjure up even more "well then can I just reuse my old non-Solution bearing?" BS.
I trust Jake's opinion, but honestly if I had the Solution installed and had to take it out for some reason, then I'd put a new one in. Just seems a silly gamble to take in my opinion.
Fair enough. I really am not trying to bust your ***** or be a dick, nor are you a "salesman" in every post
I guess it's a bit of semantics
You only use the product as part of a service and don't sell them separately.
You have spent an enormous amount of time, energy and $$$$ developing some great solutions which benefit many, which you promote (maybe not intentionally) and deservedly are entitled to and as I said, are a valuable brain trust and a valued contributor
Wow, I'd make some comment about people getting their knickers all up in a bunch or something but I'm not even sure what knickers are anymore or how or why they'd be in a bunch.
Geez.
Besides, all along I thought we were talking about people buying a used IMSB and now I find out people we were talking about their tongues and cheeks. Is there a T&C retrofit I should know about? By the way, is gold plating a must or would gold paint be sufficient? Is it true that if I wrap my whole car in gold vinyl, it would save my IMSB?
-Eric
lol too funny!
Maybe this will help...
My own version of Angry Birds.

P.S. I have little kids. These things just happen. I have no other explanation.
I agree that based on Jake's input it wouldn't be likely to fail, but the only reason you are going to pull the Solution back out of a motor in the vast majority of cases is because it is being torn down. Given the amount of money involved in such a process, I'd rather go all in and make sure the investment is protected as best as possible.
When you also factor in that the most likely reason for a tear down will be due to some sort of failure (e.g. bore scoring), that could then call the integrity of the bearing into question even if you can't visually see signs of damage.
We all have different tolerances for risk vs cost though and that's OK.
Well based on his other sales items, he is most likely a 230lb 6ft body builder - all muscle. Hate to run into a guy like that at a Cars&Coffee.
