Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my trunk release button was slightly broken to the point where you have to be gentle when pushing the button. Unfortunately, my mechanic forgot when I told him the "process" to opening the trunk. Anyway...this happened. I need to remove/replace it but I'm not sure how. I did find brief instructions online which said to remove the two small plastic buttons on the side facing the driver's seat and then remove the allen bolts but I can't seem to find or even feel them when I stick the allen wrench in there. Does anyone have step by step instructions? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I was just thinking about posting how disappointed I am with all the plastic in my 996. Its all so flimsy and brittle, so I have the same kind of problems with switches and such not staying put. Those allen screws come in from the side and don't need to be removed. They are more like posts that the panel kind of snaps onto. My panel just lifts up with a little pressure. I would guess its been removed dozens and dozens of times... Porsche plastic sucks!

POST 3Original post

Another disappointment I found is with the trunk release mechanism. If you trace the actuator cable back from the latch, you'll find a small, cheap can motor that looks like it came out of a '60s slot car stuffed in some foam and shoved in a cavity in the trunk. Mine was acting up. Porsche will sell you a new cable and 99 cent motor for $189. I took mine apart and cleaned the commutator and brushes and saved the money for better things.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! I'll give that a shot. I was getting a little frustrated and started to tug a little on it but was afraid it would snap in half or in bits. I'll try it when I get home and see if it will pop up. Appreciate the response.

POST 5Original post

perhaps POST #4 in this recent thread can help: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ons-cover.html

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks kromdom I did come across this clip but was confused with the allen bolts since I don't seem to have them. I have the holes when I remove the plugs but I don't have the bolts. I just hope I can pull this piece up without breaking it.
