I have installed numerous car stereos over the years, so tearing into this to install an aftermarket doesn't phase me, but so far I haven't been able to find a plug interface, and while I have made them up before, I haven't made the plunge.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, let's acknowledge that the sound systems in our cars leave much to be desired. My '02 Coupe's stereo has been OK, especially for my needs these days. I have a bluetooth interface that works great and allows me to listen to Satellite radio. Although I'm a musician, anymore I don't listen to a lot of music in the car, and I'm not real demanding regarding sound quality (not that I can't appreciate a great system). A few months ago the volume control just stopped working. You could turn it all you wanted, but the volume didn't change. Lazy me was OK with it because fortunately it landed on a volume level that was acceptable, if not ideal when outside noise intruded. Then, a few weeks ago, the volume dropped to the point that it was useless to try and use it. This week, I decided to try it after having the radio turned off for a few days, and the volume **** is back! I know this is short lived, but it's bought me some time. I have installed numerous car stereos over the years, so tearing into this to install an aftermarket doesn't phase me, but so far I haven't been able to find a plug interface, and while I have made them up before, I haven't made the plunge. Heck, I'd buy another CDR 220 if it was cheap enough. I prefer the stock look, and right now I'd rather just plug and play. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Did you look under the passenger seat? You can find these for sale here for about $200 IIRC.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I contacted Crutchfield a couple of years ago, and they had no solution. I'll give them a ring to see if anything's changed. I've seen some CDR's for around $200, but I wouldn't pay more than $75. Thanks guys!

POST 5Original post

Try pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery. Make sure you have the security code first. I had that same problem with the volume control but it hasn't resurfaced after the battery was briefly disconnected.

POST 6Original post

I bet I owned my car a year before I ever even turned the radio on. I'm a retired audio engineer, so expectations were low at best, and not an ideal listening environment anyways. Then, after my Fister mod, it hasn't been on again in quite some time. The idea of any upgrading seems futile to me.
