I had a Laguna Seca Mustang that I modded, which turned out to be a learning experience.

As part of the agreement with the selling dealer, LNS IMS was installed along with a new clutch and rear main seal.

Also installed new Euro plate holder, I didn't want to use bumper plugs so I thought this was a cool alternative.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I finally purchased my first 911 and I couldn't be happier, I'd like to start this thread to share my experience. Its a 2001 C2 with factory aero and sport suspension. I went with my brother to pick the car up from NJ the day after Christmas. We had a blast driving home despite the bad weather. We opted to take Skyline Drive from the start to the end, I think we saw maybe only a dozen other cars the whole time. It was a blast driving through the twisties!
Dealer photo
my mugshot, happy to have not seen one police officer on the whole Skyline dr.
Wow looks very good. I get giddy when someone else buys a 911 for the first time b/c I know how much enjoyment it will bring you every time you see it and drive it. You will notice that it likes to be driven hard and a lot! Ride on and Happy New Year!
Thank you for the positive responses! I am very excited and grateful to have this car. I had been DD'ing my 05 Honda Element the past year and I am so pumped to be in a 911 now. I am keeping the Element because it makes me appreciate this car so much more and it is a very practical car (and the price was right for it!).
..no LSD, but I hear I should be able to wear through rear tires pretty easily without it!
Had to clean out a parking spot in the garage prior to pickup:
As part of the agreement with the selling dealer, LNS IMS was installed along with a new clutch and rear main seal. I also had a set of Fister cans put on... MOG my heart drops and hair stand on end at 6,000 RPM,
I also had some clear side marker lenses sent to the dealer along with a radar detector hard-wire and bluetooth adapter for the radio for our ride home, the dealer was very nice to work with. I was very impressed.
Well sorted car, and upgrades as well. Enjoy it man, nothing like a 911. Having the second car will always keep the new feel. I don't dd mine so anytime I drive it, it feels new.
Aw crap - looks like we've got another Miata racer in the forum now. Looks like some Mustang love also.
Nice Mk I aero, though. One of the best looking 911's made.
I didn't waste much time getting her cleaned up after getting her home. I was able to put some work in on the paint, it wasn't that bad but I wanted to test my skills and its always rewarding when you're done.
I used a Porter DA buffer for everything and did the rear wing and nooks and crannies by hand.
Wash/dry
Meguiars 101/Buffing Pad
Meguiars 201/Polish Pad
Meguiars Carnuba/Finishing Pad
Does anyone have a recommendation for a longer lasting wax? The Carnuba doesn't seem to last very long.
The "frog" getting a bath.
I removed the headlights, I was surprised at how easy it was, I'm glad I did. I tapped off the rubber so I didn't get compound in the knooks and crannies.
Polishing is pretty boring so I didn't take any pictures of that. Here the wax is going on. By this point I was pretty tired but excited to see the results..
That's my Chumpcar, only been through one fire and two motors in that one. Also had Randy Pobst drive her and show us how its done! Its on its third paint job now, I wanted to copy Austin Power's Corvette.
I had a Laguna Seca Mustang that I modded, which turned out to be a learning experience. Before buying the 911 part of me wanted to get a C6 Z06, but the Mustang left a bad taste in my mouth. "There is no substitute" is true... My dad has a C5 Z06 and Superformance Cobra if I feel the need to do burn outs
Thank you. The element is definitely on the other end of the spektrum, but it is practical and my dogs like the "stadium seating" from the back seats. If you can get over the box factor you can't beat them for the money.
It is a beauty!
Pull the front bumper cover and clean the radiators.

Congratulations, you have picked out a nice car and already have done what needed to be done to preserver her.
Also great job with the paint/wax work... looks fantastic!
Installed new front lip that was missing, will be curious if I can tell any difference at all other then more dragging! Also installed new Euro plate holder, I didn't want to use bumper plugs so I thought this was a cool alternative. PS I do not recommend driving your car up plastic ramps backwards like I did
New speakers going in..
Adjusted rear spoiler to rennlist standards
They came with the spoiler, not sure on the p/n
Some of them did not want to go in (they are plastic philips head wheel arch liner type screws), so I found that after stripping a few heads that you can just lay into them with pressure and they pop in place.
Oh do you tape up the edges when waxing? i never did that, i just wax my whole car over from the paint to the rubbers to the lights they all get waxed , i never thought to do it different and only used tape on my 930 when i painted her. This shows my failure to be up to date with tips and tricks, im going to now read everything on this site pertaining to the 996 mk1, (which is the second BEST car in the world lol:
So I took yall's advice (I am in NC after all) and cleaned out my radiators, glad I did!
Found a nice surprise! Third radiator I didn't know my car had.
I hey! I don't smoke Marlboro's!
its amazing how much stuff was sandwiched between the condensor and the radiator, didn't find any gold though :/
Found some bumper coating spray paint in my garage and repainted the ducts before reinstalling, I am impressed with how easy and precise removing the bumper was, compared to other cars I've worked on.
I've used Chemical Guys wax with good results. We actually have a 10% off sale on them right now
HERE
if you want to give them a try for the next time. Congratulations btw!
Got stuck in the snow by accident on a Valentine's Day date tonight! Made it home ok the car didn't melt, in fact after car dried there were no signs of salt.
