Suggestion
If the ticking noise is from a converter and it is not just a loose exhaust connection/bad exhaust gasket or something like that then one or two "new" used exhaust manifolds could be a suitable low cost solution.
Leading evidence: 'loose converter brick' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'loose converter brick' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use exhaust manifolds could be a suitable low cost solution' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A few weeks ago I posted about my motor tic. After a few hand wringing weeks I decided to take my car to Vortex Motorsport in Tampa. They have diagnosed a catalytic converter problem, which is good I think! I had worried about an engine problem, but motor is fine. So what are my options? New cat (expensive) eliminate them all together, maybe an aftermarket exhaust system. I need a little help here as I am not up on these systems. In my youth we just put on a new "glass pack" TYA

Your options: Used OEM, New aftermarket resembling OEM, Aftermarket "free flow", bypass. Need more info concerning your emission constraints, $ range, etc.
Thanks Mark
Am not sure what emission constraints means. We do not have any emission testing in Florida. I am not adverse to spending a few thousand (maybe$3,000) on an upgraded exhaust. I would probably just cut out the cats but have been told that my check engine light will remain on. Don't like that idea.

"They have diagnosed a catalytic converter problem, which is good I think! I had worried about an engine problem, but motor is fine."
Have they actually shown/demonstrated to you that the noise is coming from the CAT or are you just taking their word for it? While I know that CAT's can be noisy/rattle, it's not a sound I would equate with an "engine tick"... (more likely to confuse an exhaust leak at the header for instance). I could certainly be off base here, it just seems a little confusing
My limited experience with exhaust noises is with my Boxster and what proved to be a loose converter brick. This never ticked but it buzzed a great deal when hot.
Towards the end it knocked when I started the cold engine. This was not a ticking noise but a deep knocking sound that of course I had coming from the engine.
Might also add that every once in a while the CEL would come on: P0430. (The other converter, which was fine would have turned on the CEL with a P0420 error error code.)
For "new" exhausts what I did was just source a pair of exhaust manifolds from a Porsche salvage parts business. I got the same make/model year of exhaust and made sure to give both a vigorous shaking to make sure both were quiet and that no converter debris came out. I treated these with kid gloves too. One shouldn't throw these around.
Anyhow, the salvage converters cost me $450/each (compared to around $1200/each new) plus the labor to have the old ones removed and the new ones installed.

I had an OEM cat go a few years ago. You could hear the broken brick moving inside and eventually it lodged itself in a way that constrained exhaust flow. OEM cats are ridiculously expensive so I bought high flow aftermarket versions made by NHP from Maxspeed motorsports. Pretty reasonably priced and you get a little more exhaust sound, no CELs triggered in the 2 years I've had them. Not Cali CARB certified, but no worries in FL.
There was a group buy on here for TopGear x-pipe + 200 cell cats a few months ago that was an amazingly good price. I have no first hand experience with those cats however.
