Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok this is just a curiosity of mine... i just recently did the aos on my car to cure a oil leak i had. (ended up being a leaking valve cover). anyway, I've read that some people have had the unfortunate event that a brand new one can fail with no miles on them. now, motorsport aos exist for cars that experience higher levels of g force. i can't seem to find if they are more reliable than the everyday ones. would putting in a motorsport level one be more suitable for a street car? it sucks that such a small and inexpensive part needs to have the engine dropped to have it put in. (i know that it can be done with the motor in)

POST 2Original post

The motorsport version is supposed to be more reliable. It's also $600...so...

While a new AOS (and any part really) can be bad out of the box, there should be a parts and labor warranty on the repair to mitigate this (small) risk. If you are a DIY'er, you are faced with the job of havinig to replace the defective AOS and about all you can hope for is where you bought it will will at least take it back and replace it with another one. Even absent any warranty I'd not worry about the AOS. Almost all of the time the new one is fine and will last a (relatively) long time. The Motorsport unit is quite a bit more expensive -- and has the same risk of being bad out of the box --and can be a bigger job to install. Also, I believe that it is not a bolt in job for the newer cars. I do not know where the dividing line is you'll have to research this. My point is you have a new AOS installed. Keep an "eye" on it (and on every other thing in the car like the water pump, cooant tank, etc.) just in case but otherwise relax and enjoy the car.

POST 4Original post

I have the motorsport version, it is not a bolt on and even the regular AOS is difficult to get on without dropping the engine to get a little room. I never installed the motorsport AOS due to the difficulty. Maybe install it once the engine is out for a rebuild but not worth doing it unless the engine was out for some reason.
