Try as I might, I can't tell from pictures of the 996 generation... Is the C4S a widebody? Is the Turbo wider than the base 911? If you know, how much wider? (Can I not see it because it's only a subtle difference?) Other gen 911's I can see an obvious difference. But with it's more subtle lines, I just can't tell with the 996. If the C4S has a wider body, I'm considering it as a potential purchase...I always wanted a non-turbo widebody 3.2 Carrera or 993, but I missed them before their prices went through the roof.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

a good back up: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=is+the+porsche+c4s+a+widebody#seen OP, as already pointed out by jhbrennan ....by 2.3622 inches
C4S is the wide body non-turbo engine, with all the turbo models' bigger brakes/tires/suspension, and same wide body. Narrow or C2 are a total different car. 2002-2005 were the C4S 996 years. they also get you the supersexy continuous rear red lens. AWD doesn't exactly suck to have either. A widebody is pretty darn obvious IMHO
this question has me
wow nice C4S in that photo
This is a question for John Ireland, international expert in wide body Porsches.
While you're at it let him explain how all 997.2 drivers should be swapping their PDK's for tip's as it is a far superior/faster transmission.
Johnny Irish would know. DAMN...Enzo'd it again
No, the gas cap is not wider.
I'm not going to fault this guy for asking. It might be obvious for us but for those just getting into these cars the differences are pretty subtle. I remember YEARS ago asking about the differences between the MK I and MK II 996s and was told the headlights were one of the biggest visual changes. I responded by telling people I saw no difference between them! I don't think I got a response after that but honestly unless you are close to these cars some of the changes that have been made really require more than a quick glance to realize.

good point. 2.4 inches is subtle N.B. pic below copied from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ody-width.html

It becomes more confusing when you consider that Porsche doesn't maintain consistency from one series to the next. For example, the 996 C4 is a narrow body car. The 997 C4 is a wide body car. I believe the 993 C4 is also wide body, but I'm not sure on that one. In any case, the lack of consistency can cause confusion.

Hmm, who can spot the boo boo here? Atrox, buddy, wanna take another shot at splainin' the differences? Or maybe adding the one giant difference not on your list?

The 993 C4 isn't a widebody, but the C4S is. Nice split grille on the spoiler, too! Really? The 997 C4 is widebody? Awesome. I'll check them out, too. I currently drive a base Boxster and love it...I don't need all the power of the bigger 911's; I just like a big A$$
I think the 996 C4S has one of the best rear ends of any 911. It's sexy....

Often considered sacrilege to say it, but I love the "fried egg" headlamps on the C4S & Turbo...great curves, to go with the great curves.

One nice thing that's nicer than the 991...less text! The text on some 991's is like a haiku poem: P O R S C H E 911 turbo S targa from germany

Yeah I guess those 2.5 inches are really needed by some... When the two are side by side the difference is more apparent. The red reflector also helps to create the illusion of being much wider than the actual difference between the two. I do love the wide body but at the right angle the rear of my "skinny" 996 looks pretty impressive as well in my opinion. Especially when I have the hardtop on it just makes it look flatter and wider for some reason. You're welcome. But we're sort of like a brotherhood in here who rag on each other all of the time. If you're new it can seem like you're being picked on for asking questions but it's all in fun. Once you're in though you'll see we have a good group here!
