Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I asked the body shop about this and they had to replace the temp sensor when they replaced the front bumper. They took it to the dealer to make sure it worked and the dealer turned it on.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

I replaced the outside temp sensor to eliminate that.

To simply cycle through the different values - and not have the ability to set the speed gong - you only need to wire up one button.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello ,
I have a question I hope someone could educate me about.I was under the impression that my 1999 C2 would display outside temp on the tach, mine does not currently. I replaced the outside temp sensor to eliminate that. Do I have to press any buttons ?
If you have the - I forget what it is exactly called - but the technology package, then it will. If you have this then you have the fourth lever below the turn signals and it will display the temp, range, etc. If you don't have this - and mine did not - then it will not.
However, after an accident and repair at a body shop, the temp showed up in mine. I asked the body shop about this and they had to replace the temp sensor when they replaced the front bumper. They took it to the dealer to make sure it worked and the dealer turned it on.
Since I did not have the fourth lever I could not scroll through the other menus, but I always had the temp displayed.
By default, the PCM data is disabled. In most cases the data is enabled by the dealer so it displays the outside temperature. It sounds like yours was never enabled and you don't have the PCM option (4th stalk)
Mark70,
PM me with your phone #. I can walk you thru your options if you want to enable your OBC (on board computer). There are several. Happy to help to minimize your pain and suffering on figuring it out from scratch.
I just bought a 1999 C2 two months ago and was clueless about this. A lot of research and I was able to install a 4th stalk and have a fully functional OBC. Cost was about $170.00.
Now that I have done it once, with the 2 parts (wiring harness and stalk) in hand, I could do it in an hour. It took me over a month of researching until I had a grasp on how to do it. And once I started I was s**ting my pants that I was gonna F something up. But actually it is quite easy once you know what to do.
Besides the outside temp. you will get the speed gong, avg. MPG, avg. MPH, miles until empty (fuel).
Please consider doing a write up on here for the 996 community. There are many, myself included, who could benefit from your knowledge of this procedure. Thanks!
Another vote for publishing this here pls. If you know the PN for the stalk and the cable, that would be helpful as well. This is exactly the kind of DIY stuff that we love in rennlist. Many folks here are tech savvy enough to do it, but if you've already done the investigation, pony it up. The next time you have an issue, one of us might have been there, done that to assist.
Everything I've read says that the dealer needs to enable the function if it wasn't done originally. Adding the four stalk component or wiring a switch won't give you anything if the function hasn't been turned on.
Or as sjg1138 pointed out, it can be enabled with a Durametric.
Mine shows the outside temp but not the other readings mentioned such as avg mpg, miles until empty, etc... Is there a secret to enabling that or just a matter of pushing some buttons ?
If you do not already have the outside temp showing, the OBC functionality is not disabled. The OBC needs to be enabled for the buttons to function.
I know the Durametric has the capability to toggle the OBC function on and off - I did it to my '99. I do not know what other OBD-II devices can be used to enable the OBC...
If the temp is showing, you need to add the buttons.
To simply cycle through the different values - and not have the ability to set the speed gong - you only need to wire up one button. Search for the OBC poor-man hack for this info...
