Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gents, This is my first Porsche, but my new to me 996 3.6L makes some horrible exhaust noises below 3,000 RPMS before sounding like a Porsche should... Do they all sounds this way? It is like a very very raspy/rattley noise below 3,000 RPMS. and then from 3,000 and beyond it sounds deep and great. Just curious, but am hoping I don't have rattley cat converters?

POST 2Original post

The muffler internals can deteriorate and cause a rattle sound. Could also just be a heat shield.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had my car on a lift 2 weeks ago and my mufflers look to be in terrible shape.... I am hoping that is the issue. I have to pass emissions in the next 2 weeks before registering it. I guess I'll figure out then if it is my cats or my mufflers. Kinda embarrassing pulling out of gas stations or parking lots before hitting 3k Rpms... A Nice looking Porsche that sounds like crap lol

POST 4Original post

Bad cats, bad muffler, loose heat shields, loose license plate bracket.... check the easy and common stuff first.

POST 6Original post

It sounds like you NEED a brand new hi performance exhaust system! Go get it!
