I mean you come on here and say super personal sh*t like, "well, my pops had a friend and his brother had this "Porsche 966", pops friend inherited it and sold it to pops but never gave him a title, pops friend has a money hungry girlfriend, pops friend's brother died and now pops friend died too, a lawyer sold one of his houses and ran with money.

I think you will need to send them the DME+ Immo+ a key ....I hear they are very resonably priced ( note : I haven ever needed/used them, I used alternate hack)

Also I wish more people would be smarter about repair cost...anyone can go to any large Public Library and look at the Chilton or Motor Labor Time Book, and see exactly how many tenths of hours the repair should be, then just need to know the Shops Hourly Labor Rate and do the math.......You will be surprised that some Independents will have a much lower hourly labor rate, ( and people will think the cost will be less), but will not follow the book and charge way more hours than the book calls for.....Yes the Book CAN be wrong on some repairs, but is the Standard and if is wrong it should be discussed and /or compared to another Shop.....All the Dealerships I have work for went strictly by t

Well, my pops lost the key and giving car to me. It's a 2003. Pulled the immobilizer m535 and removed chip 93Lc66a. Pulled the dump file and access codes. Problem is when parked it 3 yrs ago had activated the alarm. So my understanding is I won't be able to program new key unless obd access is enabled in the bin/hex file. How do I do this or can somebody edit the hex file for me to enable it. All I have is the autel im508 with xp400. I thought I could add key to the dump but apparently not.
Hacking the Immobilizer is a very specialized skill. The " ECU Doctors" may be your only hope to unlock the Immo and program the key and re-marry it to the DME..
I think you will need to send them the DME+ Immo+ a key ....I hear they are very resonably priced ( note : I haven ever needed/used them, I used alternate hack)
Yeah, it's just a program that does it with ease. Just I'm stuck at last step. Seen video on YouTube where guy use the program. Don't have access to that. Also only need this once. He mentioned knowing how to edit it to enabled obd access manually so I know that's possible. He just said he had the program so he used it instead. Hoping somebody had the program out there.
Why don't you tell us what happened with the title situation that was loosely explained in this thread.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...itle-help.html
My guess is you still don't have legal ownership to the car and because you don't have a title, you can't get help from a Porsche dealership or any independent locksmith with access to the Porsche service network.
Prove me wrong.
Thanks for assuming I'm a thief. You're an awesome person. You must have loads of money. Also I did contact locksmith i've used before for a 15 Chrysler 200. Needed to program another key as original had to be in weird place to start. Took it to him and he couldn't program. I figured out the reason why afterwards, learned I needed to do proxy alignment, bought that tool and then programmed myself. I then let the locksmith know why he couldn't do it to help him in the future.
Just like I bought my 2005 645ci not running with previous owner being told by dealer it needs a new dme at cost of $1700. Was more than I paid for the car. I do all my work myself, refuse to take my cars to dealer. Extremely proud i can avoid going to stealerships. Anyhow, I studied, researched, bought k-tag and had to learn how to use it, studied wiring diagrams and learned so much thru the troubleshooting process. Fixed it for about $250 investment. Loved the experience and success beating it. Great learning experience by the way. Also i help others troubleshoot when they are lost. I still will stay on path avoiding dealership costs and help others avoid it too. I'm the guy people turn to when the dealer/shop can't figure it out or people just can't afford it and know I can figure out a more cost effect way. I can't help that he lost the key. Lost key over 2 yrs ago and he's 67. I haven't even got to the part in asking about on Porsche yet. Just research says this will be a problem. Removed immobilizer, pulled, eeprom, bought xp400 to go with my im508 and pulled the dump file. I'm not great with pulling chips so I'd like to get it right the 1st time. I really hope to find the key but since my step mother passed, my father house is a mess. . I just can't give up so asking for help from some people that like to help others like me.
For other's that read this I'm sorry, His comment just extremely pissed me off and attacks my integrity. I will not stand for that.
Also, I'm going thru state process for the title. Still not taking to dealership when process done.
Hey, nobody is assuming anything you haven't already admitted to in your other thread on our forum.
You openly admitted to having a 996 without any keys.
You openly admitted to having a 996 without any bill of sale.
You openly admitted to having a 996 without any title.
You openly admitted to 'getting/have possession of a 996 without paying for it in full.
Possession of another man's vehicle, with no paperwork, AND not payed for in full = ?
Doesn't take a Porsche master tech to figure out what is likely happening, at least from the info you've already given us.
And yes, we all already know you consider receiving/possession of a 996 /without paying for it in full, a legal, reputable, honorable thing to do....
Doesn't look good...?
jmo
Paid him, got keys and had it towed to his house long time ago. Like I said before, they were friends so things were done differently. Hell, he only did bill of sale because I was there and told him to. Would've just been words if I wasn't. Now, I do wish he would've gotten everything done back then. Would've been so much easier. He kept giving him more money on it as the guy needed money against his own better judgement and my advice but he didn't and didn't keep doing receipts. Said only owed him a couple hundred anyway . The friend got possession of everything i assume since he sold one of the 2 houses and kept one. Last pops talk to him, his friend said the lawyer sold one house and ran off with the money. That's what his friend told him when he was in contact in the beginning. Didn't really focus on it since my father said had it under control so I thought. He just kept saying it's his friend and he's not worried about it. Anyway If you saw his house now, you'd see the issue with finding anything. The guy was a good friend of my father's. Just have the info he gave me around 3 yrs ago and what he's been mentioning last few months. He lost contact with him a while ago but said he found out he passed away. My pops is old and sometimes remember more about it. He thought he remembered where key was one day. Next time he said something about it being blue which couldn't be more wrong but it's been years since he touched it. He just been in a depression since my step-mother passed and just let things fall apart.
Think whatever you want to think. No pleasing everybody. For me its another learning experience on a car I've never got to experience. Did get it to run once in beginning but didn't sound healthy. That's how price went further down.
Just an opportunity to struggle while learning more about Porsche. Learned hard way about bmw and all cars I've owned. Just hoped would find people with a lot of knowledge or experience with this immobilizer. Too me it's logical to check on actual dedicated vehicle forums. But I think I got info on the bmw outside of forums like this. But I'm thinking this may be a lost cause on here unfortunately. I would definitely help others and still do/will if I know solutions.
So have u contacted ecudoctors? I understand u not wanting to spend money but it seams u r on software ans hardware.
They have the ability to remove the imobilizer from the equation...for a price.
What you are talking about is proprietary hardware/softare that Porsche made impossible to hack. For a reason. So, stop trying to hack into proprietary hardware/software for an easy go-around. Won't happen. Get a legitimate title to the car and send off the ECU, immobilizer and key to ECUDoctors. You're making us all nervous...
Need PIWIS software or some other program to do this. Don't remember name. It's available for public to buy. If somebody is one of those people that are scared to get their hands dirty or don't want to learn how to do anything, then we just not going to get along on here. I can send out for this out be done now anyway. I want to do myself. I like to learn. It's not impossible. I've already seen it done. Just not interested in spending $3000 for a program I only need for one thing. That's ridiculous. Me programming my bmw was supposed to be impossible but I did it myself. Locksmith told me he can't program an extra key for my girl's Benz but yet I just did it last week myself. I think outside the box due to not having the money. Can be better spent elsewhere. Learned how to do so many things. I don't need to go to dealers like most people. I'm a diy guy at heart and me learning helps many people. All this attitude must just be because it's a Porsche. I take pride in being able to do things myself that other people pay thousands for. Also, I used to be a car dealer so all my knowledge of cars really paid off. Just never dealt with either one of these types of issues. I love the fact that I never need to go to a locksmith for any car. I love I can pay $10 for a key and program myself. I love learning this stuff. Only thing I need to go to a shop for is a wheel alignment. Also learned to paint and do body work self taught. Buy many from auctions. Just another thing to learn to do. But I'd don't have to run to dealer or shops for anything. I'd rather learn and be able to do multiple times myself for way less and be able to help others save money because I learned for less than one dealer trip. I don't let dealers troubleshoot anything. Also, never have to worry about breaking down cause I learned everything I needed. I already talked to title bureau about situation and they have me on right track for title. So that's no longer an issue. Will have soon. Like I said, I'd rather spend money on learning to do myself than paying dealer/shop. I save so much money for myself, family and friends. If it were any of you and I figured this out, I would be helping you out on here. Just enjoy helping. Just like I help everybody on other forums. I never 3rd degree them. Is this just a Porsche owner thing?? I was expecting car guy people. Car guys helping out fellow car guys. That my people.
I think that one problem is that you can't prove ownership and therefore people are reticent to supply information on a sensitive subject.
Another problem is you expect people to be forthcoming with answers simply because you ask it to be.
Just an observation.
It may ultimately be possible to program keys outside of the dealer system but i have yet to read anyone sucessfully being able to do on their own. Some have been able to use existing external programs to get the key to work for short periods if time but non have been able to source a permanate solution. I think Ecudoctors does it by resetting the key, immobilizer and dme all together. U may have to figure out how to do all of this to get it to work.
Personally i would like to not spend the $4-500 porsche programing fee so i can get an extra key but its currently the only way.
No one is helping because it has not been figured out yet. Good luck and let us know if u get it ti work and good luck getting the title...again let us know how that goes.
Thank you for being polite. I've found out how to program the keys already. It's online. Videos have been posted using the scanner and attachments I have and reading the bin file. What's needed is in certain locations in the file. It's just if you lose they keys and you happened to use the fob to lock the doors you end up screwed on diy solution for most people. You have to get into the car somehow to pull out the immobilizer either way. Disables access to the immobilizer via obd. The dealer can't even access it or at least that's what they will tell you. The will say you need to buy new immobilizer and keys plus there programming charge. I call bs on that. Research and video I watched showed exactly how to do it. Just he has the software he purchased. It's a company other than ECU doctors. He was nice enough to post a how to. He just happened to mention that he knows how to edit the file to enable normal obd access without the program. Was trying to find out if anybody else knows how to do this. That's all I was asking or if anybody had the program to do this for me. I'm not a rich person so I can't justify spending that much for the program just to do a key but just enjoy my car hobby. I'd rather spend $3k on a car to make $3k profit. Way my mind works. This is a want and not a need so I don't want to spend a lot which means learning the hard way like how I've learned how to do so much needed in life. I don't have to pay anybody to fix anything....cars, house, plumbing, electrical, body work , painting, troubleshooting, fabrication etc... I don't have a lot of money but save so much more from learning. I'm pro people taking the time to learn how to do things even if it's hard way. People nowadays take the easy way too much and don't learn anything but how to pay the person lots that did learn. When I figure this out, I will post a how to or if I see another ask how, I will tell them how and share what I've learned.
I've even came across people that can program used keys to immobilizer which dealer says is impossible and people on here will say can't be done. I'm talking about chip function for door locks not transponder. It's 2 different programs in key itself. Just information. I honestly don't know how deep people get into learning on here. It just seems like people want to go to dealer on here for everything. There is a way to pull code out of key. Just takes some research. That is later down the road but no need to do. Looking for tinkerer like me that doesn't believe the "only dealer can do it" spew. I've been finding that's wrong every time on every thing.
Well, figured it out. Can't believe I was staring at the answer the entire time from the video I watched of the guy showing how to do using the software. Cost 0 dollars and learned a lot on he way. The way I like it.
Ok, first of all, congratulations on figuring it out.
Now keep YOUR word (see quote above) and demonstrate what you've learned with a step-by-step process so that others can learn how to make copies of Porsche 996 keys.
And, please provide photographs and illustrations for us visual learners as well as the key working to start the 996. Thank you.
My issue I was asking for help for from people I figured have more experience with Porsche than I do and would be extremely helpful people one other forums was just the gaining access to obd to program keys like normal. Instead I got negativity and down right rudeness. Now, I know everybody on here not like this. Appreciate the good ones who really want to help.
To answer your question about dublicating keys. That's not my goal at the moment. In my research I stumbled across info stating it can be done. I don't have a Porsche key from another car to try that. Maybe later down the road I will do that just for the challenge. Then I will post process.
Had another member wanting me to post my process and make videos. I'm not sure if that person is just trying to be sarcastic and negative but I won't be doing that. There is a reason why there's no direct videos on this and I'm not opening the door to people who may actually be trying to steal one. I will honor what I said by responding to other's posts that have same problem as me as I come across their posts.
My issue was just gaining access to obd to program replacement keys. I just learned so much more in process. I'll try duplicating keys later.
So, you asked many questions on getting a Title on a car that was not in your name, and on cracking the Immobilizer because you have no key and received a lot of suggestions and comments..
Then found a procedure you used for the Title issue and some secret info on cracking the Immobilizer but have not shared any of it ?? So much for "helping the community" ....
Yes because a lot of people had this problem and a lot of people want to save older cars. I've heard of people doing it successfully. Though people on her were car guys that liked to save cars. Picked wrong group of people. Anyhow, talked to title bureau which they know me well, explained everything and told me exactly what to do. Apparently they've come across this before and have an exact procedure printed out to follow so all good there. Something the haters never heard of before on here. And like I said, my father lost the key. Nothing I can do about him doing that. 1st time going thru process and thought dedicat Porsche people was the way to go but apparently the ones with attitudes have sticks up there but and rather be a holes then helpful. Also, if anybody else wants to save a no title car I can help lead in right direction without attitude.
Skip, it's like this to me. There are either givers or takers here on Rennlist and the other Porsche forums. You be the judge which one our George Trippin' is.
Now, as you know too well, copying keys on modern cars like the Porsches has turned to an art form and usually reserved for the high-tech thieves. Since companies started implementing RFID, rolling code, encryption, etc. etc it has become more of a financial headache to honest owners more than it has to the high-tech hacker/thieves. Remember as they say, "Locks are only good to keep the honest people out!"
Now onto the thread topic at hand...
I paid Walmart $2 to make a copy of the key to my 1997 Ford F150. Doesn't even have a remote. Most keys in cars back then were simple. My father lost one of his keys to his 2004 Ford F150. He's 87 and I don't like the idea of not having a backup. On the 2004, Ford moved to using simple transponder keys that most basic key copying systems (Home Depot, ACE, Walmart, etc) can NOT duplicate. They can cut the standard blades, but NOT copy the data within the transponder. The Ford dealerships wanted $300 per key. Get this, if you have two working keys, you can program new transponder keys in the truck. 8 maximum slots. But you
must
have 2 working keys BEFORE making additional keys. The process is simple and online at Ford for any to follow. Unfortunately, I only had ONE working transponder key. Therefore, the free Ford in-truck method would not work. Here's the twist... I found a company that sold an OBD device that "tricked" the truck into thinking it had two keys. The cost was only $40. Bought one blank Ford transponder key ($15), had Ace hardware cut the blade ($8), plugged the ODB device in and copied my new key. Booom it worked!
That being said, I have yet to see anyone or a company that can guarantee it can copy a Porsche key (remote and RFID) on the 996. Easy to make a duplicate blade, but
not
the RFID and remote. Is it possible? Absolutely! There are companies like xHorse that claim to copy Porsche keys, but they're not specific on which model and can't guarantee it will stick. Remember, you have to have at least one working keyfob to duplicate. And, their products are more expensive than paying a dealership to make a duplicate. So why bother if you're not looking to get into the key making business? I'd just pay Porsche to make a new key for $500 and move on with life. But if a company comes around that can do it for a fraction of the price and can guarantee results, then it's open season!

Never expected so much negativity trying to save a car deal. Yes because people come across this problem and a lot of people want to save older cars. Normally it's not a Porsche and maybe that's why you have a major problem with it. Actually came across somebody in person who went thru same thing and was very helpful. He just said make sure its worth it financially. This is worth going thru the pita process. Yes, a lot of times when someone finds a way to do something no one else can do, not even the Dealership, they start a small business of it.....You could do this with low overhead and save people a lot of $$ if you wanted....
You could do it cheaper than ECU DR..since you have lower overhead....and there are Title Companies also who do Title issues...
But I doubt any of this is in your plans.....not even publicly sharing...
I get that. I'm a major car guy diyer. I program my own keys. Just never done Porsche. 1st experience here and learning. I've just been doing research and learning. Just my thing. I bought scanner to do keys myself for my cars and friends. The more I learn, the more we all save. They turn to me for all their car problems and I'm glad to help them. I own a couple Ford fusions and I did one of those keys. Did a key for my girl's Benz. Locksmith told me he couldn't do it. I just had to get the xp400 to add to my autel im508 and was able to do it myself. I love saving money. I buy a lot of auction cars and some with no key. I save $200-$400 each time. It's just a good investment to save money being able to do things yourself. I love it. I never have to turn to dealer or shop for anything. I invest in tools for diy. All I'm saying. I'm a major car guy and mess with all types. It's my hobby. Nothing negative about that to me. Just came across wrong person or people I guess. Idk. I like to do things myself. The more one learns, the more they save and the farther their money stretches. I live by that. Gets applied to everything. Not being negative at all. Just trying to get help as I help others.
Porsche dealerships tell you that you have to get a brand new immobilizer, keys and sometimes more in this situation. They tell you that if you lose your keys you are screwed. You have to do their process. It's been proven false by others already. Some believe have to be a company to be able do this and that's false. It's all available to be public equipment if willing to pay high dollars. All you to is search online. People say you have to go to dealers for problems and that's false. Haven't had to yet. Just to invest the time to learn.
Chill George! Sometimes I wonder if you're truly just a gen-alpha teenager because you seem to love to create drama because of the whole long personal storyline and when someone disagrees or apprehensive about your comments, you turn into the victim and unknowingly start repeating everything mechanically with broken grammar and contradictions. Is it real or not, who knows???
But really... Who talks like this??? I mean you come on here and say super personal sh*t like, "well, my pops had a friend and his brother had this "Porsche 966", pops friend inherited it and sold it to pops but never gave him a title, pops friend has a money hungry girlfriend, pops friend's brother died and now pops friend died too, a lawyer sold one of his houses and ran with money. I used to own a dealership, but I hate dealerships and refuse to give my money to them.... yadda yadda"
One minute you're saying your "pops" is 65, then next you say he's 67. Then you say he was NOT going to give him money until had the title, then you're saying he gave him money after the purchase because he needed it? On one hand you're saying he only got one key and then you said you obtained keys (plural). One minute you're saying you love learning and helping others, then next you're saying you won't because someone might "steal" the information. yadda yadda yadda.
I've known a lot of BS'rs in my time, but you're about to hit the top 20! In all honestly, you can PLAY the victim here in hopes to gain sympathy, but frankly, it won't work. Most of the members on this forum can tell a charlatan when they see it.
That may be harsh, but it's the way I see it.
You have the wrong perception of Porsche people and of this Forum...
I have been in the busseness for 50 years in Motorsports and working for Dealerships both Foreign and Domestic...I can say I know "car people" and the Racers are one of the most kind and fun loving bunch, and also the Porsche Enthusiast the most friendly and welcoming fun loving groupe of car guys in the World...
Porsche and Porsche Dealerships are all about "Security"...more so most other companies .. That's why you will have a hard time getting the "IPAS/Programming Codes" from them.......
If you have a PIWIS ( which is easily availible as a Chinaq Copy nowadays),,, all you need is the IPAS/Programming code and you can program keys ect all you want.....but they will not just give them out willynilly...
Stop bashing Porsche people and Porsche Dealerships just because you don't understand them....it's not all about the money,, but if you think that way you will have the the wrong perception...
Yeah, I don't actually remember his age. Know it's was above 65 at the time. He mentioned 67 later in conversations. Was just trying to explain situation. Should.have just left that out. I can be open on other forums without the negative crap. 1st time going through this. Been on different forums for years. Join as I acquire cars I don't know about and learning about. Oh well. Is what it is. Also start what? Was asking for help? Lol
Not meaning to be bashing them as you put it. I am bashing the person bashing me for wanting to learn. Basically, dealership and shop is not the only ones who can fix them. Also, some racers diy car guys and learned hands on like I'm saying can be done.
Funny. I'm letting people know dealer isn't only answer. For those who like to save money. Just I don't believe any car can only be worked on by dealers or shops. I'm the one being told it has on here it has to them when I know for a fact they don't. I just learn. How hard is that to get. Why is that wrong when others tell me only dealer can do it and I still get it done. I used to go to dealers for diagnostics and repairs. Them being wrong was a waste of money. Had a person that spent thousands on dealer diagnostics and repairs for the problem to not be fixed. Car kept dying. Very dangerous. I bought it off him when I was 16. I was just learning and fixed it myself. Was a $35 part. Saying dealer only is like saying only they can change and engine or diagnose it properly. Just saying people don't have to take it to them because people tell them thats the only way. People can save so much money learning about their investments and how to solve their own problems and that's facts. My friend's come to me for diagnostics when the shops can't or charge more than they can afford.
I will help others that start a post like me asking for help if I see their post. Not people with sarcasm trying to break down my help. You're not looking for help. You just want to criticize for learning outside of dealer.
I like your mini-novel sized posts
. Written like your trippin
As far as your other Thread, most normal humans know to get a Title & Bill of Sale in hand when purchasing a car - Or if lien payoff at bank with seller and get confirmation of payoff.
Dead seller, dead brother need Death Certificate to transfer however there is most likely be a lien on the car because seller was desperate to dump it----> Which means you are sh:t out of luck.
.......Your 1st Thread a very good example of what not to do when buying a car.
...And to keep on 996 Topic, I do miss the 5 C4S's I owned. Great cars.
I don't begrudge anyone saving money, neither do Porsche Dealerships that I worked for. What I Do wish ( and also the Porsche Dealer that I worked for) is that people like you could have enough money not to worry about money..... and just do the best possible repairs and care for your car...
What you don't know or realize is when you, your shop, and everyone you know can't fix a problem, it ends up at the Dealership....That is the last stop .....where everything can/will get fixed as long as an owner don't run out of money....when Porsche is paying the bill ( Warranty) the money doesn't run out and all cars get fixed...
So keep on saving your money, I help lots of people save money, but I wish you and everyone had enough money to stop being so cynical about Porsche repairs...
Yes, you are correct. People have have dealt with the death process know. None of us knew the process. Actually, my father should have known but his lawyer took care of it cause he didn't know anything about it when my step mother passed. Brother didn't know process. He just wanted money, was only heir and offered the car to my father for very little.
I was brought in to check the car out being my car background. Pops didn't even know what kind of Porsche it was. Barely ran and had engine noise. While after that deal my wife passed and I had to learn about process. Then my mother afterwards. But, like I said, my father was handling it with his friend. I don't see my pops much so it was big gaps of me going over there. I'd just see it and ask if he got the title. Told him it was very important he gets it. Just kept saying he'll get it. It's his friend and he not worried about it. I've owned over 100 cars personally and very familiar with title process. My pops not so much. He just trusted his friend. Friend didn't know process either.
Hey, to everybody out there. I highly recommend getting your ECU, immobilizer data pulled beforehand. Especially if risk of water damage. I've dealt with a lot of no key purchases from auctions but the process was fairly simple to me. Learned from locksmiths. Porsche whole nother beast. Never thought I'd come across one like this so knew nothing. Nobody would ever think a lost key problem would be so expensive or have to change complete parts just to get keys. Never come across this situation with any vehicle before. If you have the money to buy diy equipment or just get the cheaper tools that can pull the information, it will save you tons if this happens. You can get used modules and then write your dump to the replacement. Also with immobilizer, your current key code is in the dump file you saved. Like I said, nobody has reason to pull this info until in the situation and then wish they had. I mean, regular owners. People that tune these themselves will probably already know.
I understand and respect where you are coming from, but not every dealership operates that way.
I have a lot of respect for our local dealership, but the number of customers flocking to our independent shop is telling of a problem from the perspective of the customer. It's not that they get treated bad, but the financial cost is very high and some have been quoted work that really did not need to be done. This is mostly out-of-warranty work.
I also get that these dealers are under financial pressures, partly due to Porsche and other manufactures having a say into how they conduct business as well as what kind of buildings and resources they have. It's not cheap and the business model that pays the best rate of return is tapping into the wallets of the well heeled. If you have not done so lately, checkin to the Porsche configurator. For that matter, just look at the base prices for the Porsche new car lineup and compare the affordability to that of 10 or more years ago (you need to convert dollars with inflation). You can see where the trend is going.
Yeah it's crazy how things are going. If you have big money then going to dealer for everything is ok. Just with dealer's/shops it can be expensive. Even worse when you struggle to pay and it didn't fix the problem. So many people I know went thru this. I lost faith in shops/dealerships. To them the money you lost is no big deal. They made money. See, i grew up with nothing. Due to not being able to afford things I had to learn to fix whatever got broken. Not just cars, everything. That helped myself, family and friends. People said BMW's were expensive to own so when I bought one. I learned to work on them the hard way. Same with my 1st "poor mans Porsche" as they've been called. Couldn't afford to take to dealer. That's the direction I come from with each problem that presents itself. Been told by many it can't be fixed, only dealer can or shop but I had to fix it myself. Technicians at big dealerships aren't trained to fix circuit boards. They are trained to troubleshoot and replace parts. I like to learn and use what Iearned to help others. I just like helping people period. Problem is that I can't get help when I need it lol. Either people don't know how to help, aren't attentive to detail causing more problems or don't want to help. When it gets too expensive for them, the ones that didn't want to help want mine. Just my experiences. Others could be different.
Sorry to the good people on this forum for getting pissed. I don't stand for my integrity being attacked. Don't know me, that's fine but nobody is going to tell me I'm up to no good whether they can comprehend my situation or not. I ended up so far off the subject of asking for help with my key problem. As I get older, my fuse is shorter for attacks on my integrity. I understand on social media there's always somebody thats going to throw shade. It's just so annoying lol. Once again, I'm sorry to all the good hearted people.
Yeah, I have heard the stories of the unscrupulous Repair Shops both Independent and Dealerships....When I was young I didn't believe them but as I got older and kept hearing them from some people who I knew were honest and level headed, I started to believe them....But the three Dealerships I have worked for a FoMoCo, a Mitsubishi, and a Porsche ,they all were the utmost of honest and only had Two Rules....Rule 1..The customer is always right...Rule 2 : If the Customer is wrong, refer to Rule 1 ...
And if we had a Technician or Salesman who was unscrupulous, he didn't last long once discovered...
Also I wish more people would be smarter about repair cost...anyone can go to any large Public Library and look at the Chilton or Motor Labor Time Book, and see exactly how many tenths of hours the repair should be, then just need to know the Shops Hourly Labor Rate and do the math.......You will be surprised that some Independents will have a much lower hourly labor rate, ( and people will think the cost will be less), but will not follow the book and charge way more hours than the book calls for.....Yes the Book CAN be wrong on some repairs, but is the Standard and if is wrong it should be discussed and /or compared to another Shop.....All the Dealerships I have work for went strictly by the Book as a matter of ethics/honesty, and also there can be Legal repercussions for not following the Book...
IF you do this you will already know what the cost should be before you even talk to a Shop...
