I used LLumar IRX on my 996 Targa..I have the same kind on all my cars, love them.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My black 996 C4 I think would look good with the addition of window tint . And if course it also helps protect the interior from UV . It's been 15+ years since I have had a pro install of tint . I am sure a lot has changed .
I am in Georgia and would want the darkest legal tint available . Before I head off to local shops I would like to hear comments from you guys . And if there is a preferred brand or type .
One question I have is does window tint on the rear window have an affect on radar detector performance ? Like a Valentine 1 or similar that have front/side/rear detection. Thanks
3M Crystalline
is the highest-end film sold at my local tint shop. I have it on all of my vehicles since I live in a very warm climate with lots of sunshine and it is worth every penny in my opinion. Ceramic, which was probably the top of the line last time you looked 15 years ago, is still very good and is considered 3M's mid-grade film today.
No performance drop-off for my radar detector with my windshield tinted. Nor automatic headlight issues or other windshield sensor issues on my newer vehicles equipped with those.
+1 on the 3M and Dr Strangelove is on point. I have the same in my car and live in Miami FL which damned hot. I went with the clear option and my windshield is tinted as well.
3M Crystalline tint is great but it's hard to install and costs a pretty penny.
I went with Xpel Nano Ceramic. on my 981, including 70 on the front windshield.
PRIME XR PLUS - VLT: 5, 15, 20, 30, 35, 45, 55. 70
+1 for 3M
Crystalline is the best option, but it has a more brownish hue. 3M ceramic is more gray/black.
I went with the lightest (70%?) Crystalline on my windshield since it's almost clear, but ceramic on all the other windows.
I got llumar FormulaOne stratos on everything except the windshield, anything ceramic should be pretty good. Almost everywhere in the states you are only allowed to tint the windshield to the AS1 line, a product like air80 is not really noticeable and still gives most of the benefits, generally shops will install a full windshield tint regardless but you could possibly get a fix it ticket for doing so.
^^^
Tint level is perfect
Is there any other decent high VLT tint aside from 3m Crystalline? Getting the 90% on my windshield is tempting. For anyone who has had their windshield tinted, how much optical aberration is there?
All of my windshields are Crystalline 70 and I don't notice any aberration or distortion, however, I think it's very important to note that I do not wear corrective lenses. My only perspective on this is with naked eyes or sunglasses.
That's interesting. I wear polarized sunglasses and see refraction artifacts similar to looking through tempered glass. I do not know what "clear" tint is on my windshield as it was there when I got the car.
^^^^ Yeah, yeah…the Chunk’s car looks totally badass! Geez, give it a rest you fanboys! You’re gonna force “Joel” to go out and buy more wheels and carbon bits to try and one-up himself. Have a heart, fellas.
Some good discussion and great pics . Different question , what should I expect to pay for ceramic tint for the 996 ? I would like some ballpark figures before going to the shop .
Stopped by the local tint shop this afternoon to get a quote . He uses Llumar brand and recommended the ceramic 35% which is the darkest legal for Georgia . For the windshield top strip he goes with 5 % . All lifetime warranty the price is $350.00 . I thought that was very reasonable . Unfortunately on the drive over there my drivers side window regulator started making crunching noises so I ordered a new one . After that repair is complete she's off to the window tint dude . Appreciate all the feedback and advice . Thanks guys
Just be aware, while darker does get you some performance advantage, it isn't necessarily worth going darker thinking it will be much cooler!
The technology in tint has improved drastically since I was a teenager, in that you probably wouldn't FEEL a difference in 50% and 35% in the same ceramic tier!
I plan to go 50% just to reduce the UV and infrared heat load.
The darker you go, the more you'll notice the missing tint on the dot matrix around the edges.
I am expecting two things from the tint . One to protect from UV and lessen the heat load . Two because my car is black I want the tint to enhance the overall look of the car . I believe the 35% will achieve both objectives .
We have done the 3M Crystalline on our Subaru Crosstrek and our now departed VW GSW, 20% in the rear and 30% on the front windows. Looks good, but in a year I noticed a slight "purple" hue developed on both cars. Not really much, but noticeable to me (and it was genuine 3M Crystalline, as the installer left the trade marks on the tint material until I saw it). CD came with a tint (unknown brand, but she does have Expel on the front facing surfaces) and the 996 doesn't have a tint (does a convertible really need it?).
We just purchased an Opel Mokka diesel (small SUV) to use over here in Greece and found a decent LLumar dealer near us. Got their Nano-Ceramic tint, 55% on the rear windows (which were already coated with a privacy tint) and 35% on the fronts. Been driving her for 2 weeks now and that tint is amazing for heat reduction. Very noticeable !!
Oh, and the installing dealer here in Greece did the entire job in 30 minutes (two workers). Install was awesome !
here's 35% against a white car background. It's not too terribly dark. I had about 20% all around on a previous car and visibility at night was not good. I have all my cars done at 35% (legal limit) now
I used LLumar IRX on my 996 Targa..I have the same kind on all my cars, love them. It's a lifetime warranty as long as you own the car..heat rejection is noticeable. Since mine is a targa and I also did the windshield price was around $1300.
