I changed my door lock actuator a little while ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I changed my door lock actuator a little while ago. Recently was away from car for enough time that the key fob went into hibernate mode for remote unlocking, but then discovered that my key blade wouldn't unlock the car. The key was working in the lock when I changed the actuator, now it is not. Turning the key does nothing. I'll get into the car when I get back with AAA, but, what do I need to fix in the door to make the key work again? Is it a broken part? Anyone have this happen to them? I'm out of town and if I need to order a part I want to get it done before I return. Thanks in advance!
You may need a "Support with lock cylinder w/o stipulated lock number":
US Part Number is 996.537.963.02
You'll need a locksmith to repin it to your key.

Dave, this is a newer feature that doesn't apply to your 2007 Cayman. I had a 2008 Cayman and it would NOT wake up when pulling the handle when it went into sleep mode. The guy that recommended that owns a newer Cayman 987.2 and his information is very vague. I don't know 100% when Porsche implemented active transmitters on the Cayman and keyfobs, but all of my Volvo's have it. That is, you walk up to the car and it automatically recognizes the Keyfob and I can enter the vehicle withOUT having to do anything with the Keyfob.
As Harvery mentioned, your problem is probably the plastic key control shaft the inserts into the lock mechanism. If that's not broken, then it's you lock mechanism. Also, there are only two primary ways to get your car out of sleep mode: One, by unlocking the car with the key remote OR by inserting the key blade in the door lock, opening the door and then quickly inserting the key in the ignition and turning it to first position.

After about 5 days the immobilizer, in order to conserve power, stops "listening" for the remote. In other words, the car goes to sleep to conserve power. That is why you need the physical key to unlock the door. It is essential that the door lock works with your key.
I've owned several Porsches in the last decade and so I'm speaking from my personal experience. Here is the correct procedure as mention in the owner's manual.
