Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

(I use my car primarily for enthusiastic street driving so I can't comment on track performance.) Someone else will tout Contis, someone else Pirellis, and so on.
Leading evidence: 'Use car primarily' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run michelin pilot sport ps/2' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Ive run Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2 on all of our 996s and 987.2s for 20 yrs and been very happy with them.

Suggestion
A TireRack test performed on a stock BMW 3-series is only vaguely applicable to your 911.

Suggestion
Different sizes of a given tire will work differently as well, for example Michelins are famous for using different tread patterns for "front" vs "rear" tires and sometimes totally different compounds if you have a N* tire.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Lots of choices out there. I'm looking for max performance summer only that are a good bang for the buck. I think anything with a treadware greater than 300 cant be very sticky. Also since the front tire size is common for heavy sedans, I don't want a heavy too stiff sidewall. What do folks think of pirelli PO rosso.

The 987 had conti pro-contacts on it when we bought it and they felt super loose to me. Much better when I put the PS/2s on.
You will get someone telling you that every tire is their favorite. For example, I will tell you that the the PS4S is a great tire, especially if you go with GT3 sizing. (I use my car primarily for enthusiastic street driving so I can't comment on track performance.) Someone else will tout Contis, someone else Pirellis, and so on. None of them will be wrong.
If you truly don't care about tread wear, the Bridgestone RE71 RS has a following here also.
Yes they do. But they are pretty comfortable to drive around town too me, but maybe not to someone else. The grip is intoxicating on the street. But they do make some noise.
Quite frankly, you can't go wrong with M PS2, M PS4s, M SC2s, M AS4s, B RE71RS, Continentals, Pirellis, etc that meet our specs.
Tires make all the difference in the world to how your car drives. You just gotta pick one that matches what you are looking for in characteristics. I would stick with a street tire. Tire rack has a ton of tests and videos to identify what you may want and ultimately make a decision.
Yes. I usually try to get the N-spec but Ive had non N-spec and could not tell a difference. I do not track often, primarily daily driving with weekend jaunts in the hills.
I had pZero on 18", 285 rear, 225 front.
I went to Conti - much better tread life. Performance is on par with the pirelli's.
I don't drive the heck out of my car. If I did, it would be michelin.
My dad always said: Castrol Oil and Michelin Tires. Not sure he was wrong.
I have Continentals on my Carrera and Pilot Sports on my Turbo. Contis are great. I'd buy them again. PS? Only because they're about the only brand that sells the size these tires need to be.
I recently mounted Yokohama ADVAN Apex V601 as my summer wheels. The new version has improved wet handling, it’s failing on previous versions, and I’m happy with the performance. Hey are available through tirerack and won’t break the bank too badly.

TireRack isn't that exhaustive covering variables - behavior across different climates, tire pressures, camber and toe settings, all affect how happy you can get a tire to be. For example, they liked the older ECS so much but that tire was useless once you got some heat into it, dropping off even harder than PSS/PS4S. V601's don't impress anyone with a stock alignment, but if you want to take the car lapping they're the most tolerant of heat and are sometimes faster than PS4S outright (if you get the alignment and pressures correct).
