Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I'd check for moisture/water under the carpet, make sure top works, and get the camshaft deviation values - all DIY fixable but major negotiating areas.
Leading evidence: 'Check moisture/water' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check moisture/water' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
Looking to get a second fun car, 4 seater, manual, convertible, something fun to drive, ideally under $25k. Does not need to be fast, just enjoyable to take the wife and dog on trips with the top down.
Started looking at 996s, and I wanted a car with less than 80K miles, but this color really caught my eye. Looking for a driver, I am handy, can do everything minus droping the engine or trans, since they come down as a unit.
Familiar with the IMS (Looks like it was done), and bore scoring.
Thoughts on this specific car? Thanks

Hey, this is my car! Well, almost - I have a 2000 Vesuvio cab, same exterior but with Space Grey sport seats and interior. Otherwise very similar.
First - sorry to say, there is no premium for Vesuvio. It is a very rare and interesting color and gets attention from fellow owners, but adds nothing to value, somewhat surprisingly. I guess no one wants a purple 911. The grey interior is also considered not terribly desirable.
It looks to be in good shape for the mileage but asking price is WAY too high, which is probably to be expected with a dealer. If original paint, with this market at this time of year it's a $16 or 17k car. Respray, take another $2k off. This is assuming it otherwise checks out mechanically. LN IMS is the way to go, but doesn't add much value. Bore scoring less of an issue with MY 2000. If you like the car it may be worth more to you especially if your goal is to drive it, but resale this is the realistic range.
HVAC screen needs replaced. I'd check for moisture/water under the carpet, make sure top works, and get the camshaft deviation values - all DIY fixable but major negotiating areas. (You can probably handle dropping the engine and trans btw).
Also this car has the downgraded audio package, may or may not be important to you but limits upgrade options due to no door speakers. Unusual as it has other options including memory seats and trip computer. The steering wheel is correct for late 2000 with the mono badge, it was one-year only.
I love my Vesuvio 996, they are out there but you will probably never see another one in the wild. Not valuable, but really cool cars.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't really care about valuable, as you noted I like unique and cool. I think the color once polished and coated would really look sharp. I'm a fan of fun colors. Lava Orange on my RS is just fun. It makes driving the car a special occasion. Purple and Lava would be fun and cool. Daily drivers are black, silver, white, this is not that.
The grey interior with the tan carpet isn't my favorite, but it's doable. Thanks for the input on the HVAC screen. I can replace that if needed.
Price wise they are definitely high, I don't think they would come down to 16 or 17k. If it were that price I would just go buy it. I am suprised on the low value of these. Then again 964s, and 993s were very cheap at one point. I'm not looking for it to increase, just something fun to drive with the top down. A slower car that you can put through the paces without massive speeds.
This car is in Michigan, and it's starting to snow. They've had to since May, so I am sure they want to sell it. I'll reach out to them.
Thanks again for the feedback
For what it is worth for comparison purposes, 1 week ago I became an owner of '03 996 in a not so common Orient Red color for $21k. Purchased also in Michigan but from a private owner. They initially had it listed for $25k as well but dropped the price to $21k on their own right before I came by. So with yours having a significantly higher miles, I would say somewhere under $20k. My specs (2003 Cabriolet, 55k miles, IMS fixed, new clutch, new upgraded exhaust).
