The typical recommended option is to find 996 GT3 wheel carriers but those have proven to be scarce.
Leading evidence: 'scarce' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'scarce' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install but the abs system needs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've got a 996 that has 997 front spindles/knuckles installed but the abs system needs to be converted so that the system works.

even considering that I am not enough of a good driver to notice, that also means some additional parts to change (camber plate, not sure about shock itself)

This is where the issue is as most of the brake set ups available use the 142mm bolt spacing as found on the 996 GT3/turbo and 997 Carrera S/GT3/Turbo.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
My car (04 40th anniversary) currently has an over-the-top brake set up that does not fit my use and I have been planning to "downgrade" for a while.
Currently, I have 380mm Brembo GT 8 pistons front and the stock front calipers with spacers and 330mm discs in the back (I thought for the longest time that I had stock turbo rears, took me a while to figure that one out)
The front brakes are mounted on stock 996 uprights that have 130mm bolt spacing to attach the calipers. This is where the issue is as most of the brake set ups available use the 142mm bolt spacing as found on the 996 GT3/turbo and 997 Carrera S/GT3/Turbo.
My plan is to use the stock 996 GT3 mkII 350mm 6 pistons fronts and 330mm 4 pistons rears.
The typical recommended option is to find 996 GT3 wheel carriers but those have proven to be scarce. So hence my question: c
an I mount 997S wheel carriers on my 996?
Thanks for any help!
alpine, thanks for the reply and PM.
Issue with the turbo or c4s carriers is that they have a degraded geometry with the shock tilted backwards to clear the shaft.
even considering that I am not enough of a good driver to notice, that also means some additional parts to change (camber plate, not sure about shock itself)
will consider it though.
I am thinking 997 carriers should work with 996 control arms but not sure if the trailing arms are an issue
That's when you start shopping for the GT2 carriers as the GT2 was RWD with the same geometry as the GT3. I saw a couple for a great price based on the link I sent you.
Cross reference the GT3 to the GT2 spindles and they might even be the same part number.
Edit: they appear to be same part number. There you go. Under $400/pair.
ABS sensor type seems to be completely different, 996 vs 997. But I'll know this for sure in a couple of days.
EDIT: They're completely different. Both the sensor and the hub. No tooth whatsoever. Damn...needs some thinking...
Hi!
Has anyone got this sorted in some way? I've got a 996 that has 997 front spindles/knuckles installed but the abs system needs to be converted so that the system works.
Can the system possibly work if I simply just install 997 abs-sensors into the front axle that has these 997 wheel carriers?
