Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The high beams do not work all of a sudden. I can get the high beam when I pull the switch out. Took it to my local shop and they said they checked the wiring - continuity was there. They said it was a ballast and I needed a completely new head light...OUCH! Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated...

POST 2Original post

The 996 high beam are halogen bulbs, even if you have the litronic (hid) headlights. ballast doesnt have anything to do with the high beam. they checked the bulbs? Id replace the headlight switch and stalk before the headlight. do you have a voltmeter? -Eric

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes..how would I use it...? the high beam does work when I pull out the switch..??

POST 4Original post

Probably the stalk on the clockspring assembly. The car is around 20 years old now so it's bound to break. Luckily it's easy to replace and relatively cheap since it shares the part with Boxsters of that era.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thank you..that makes more sense

POST 6Original post

Fyi, Clock spring only transfers signal from items on the wheel so it doesnt effect anything from the stalks.

I knew you'd get me on that one! 😎 I was oversimplifying. It just so happens to be on the assembly.
